Flasher unit location + photo (L-series)
Flasher unit location + photo (L-series)
Can i bother one of u fine gentlemen for a location and photo of a L series indicator flasher unit.
I realise this is an easy thing to find when the unit is working (search for the clicking unit) but when they are not then it is a bit of a treasure hunt.
I have no idea what this unit is meant to look like... hence needing a photo.
Thanks in advance
Dave

Yeah indcator flasher sorry. It's starting to sound like there is a different style flasher unit depending on the year L series....
If it is built into the indicator stick assembly then would that mean u have to replace that entire assembly to change the flasher??

nah i wouldnt think it would built in mines seperate hey right up under the dash....(like just behind the mirror switch sort of)...ive never seen one one built in on any car hey...

you should see 3 relays like these up behind the fuse block the flasher can (or relay) sits on top of these my flasher can has mitsubi writen on it and its black and square shape it has a screw holding it in place...looks a bit of prick to get out..

Now to make it even MORE complex… The pic attached (Thanks waggaclint) is the 3rd different indicator flasher unit I have seen for an L series in the last week. The RX has only 1 of those cylinder units, the touring wagon has a double unit (they are connected) and this pic has 3.
And we say that Subaru’s are easy to work on LOL
(PS thats for getting this up for me Dave).

RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

Clint said it's on top of them canisters (relays) they are not the actual flasher unit.

So are you saying that its the relay that needs replacing not the actual small cylinders (as pictured)?

Nope no help
The flasher unit in the wagon was berried up under the dash and it was a struggle just to get it out. I fear going higher will cause me much frustration and possible nose bleeding n dizzy spells.
Thanks I may pull it apart again on the wkd.

Nope. This is either the A/C Rev counter or the Wiper Control UnitDann wrote:just bringing up a past thread here with the flasher unit mine recently went when escorting a mate being towed at night, my hazard lights and indicators arent working so i'm guessing this should be the problem??? does the unit look like this... pic
The Flasher Unit should be a round silver looking unit

Not the wiper control unit, they have been grey boxes so far - that unit is something like the stop the electric fuel pump in case of an accident - about 350 bucks for a new one.
Dann, can you tel us year model or make date of your L, maybe even a pic of the indicators at the column. Er, you have checked fuses ?

yeah it's a 1992 l series standard one built- Jan 1992 on a Wednesday... haha jokes but the Jan 1992 part is right, and yes I've checked all fuses, can somone post a photo of the exact relay of the flasher unit, cause i thought it would be the silver canasters too but this thread says otherwise, anyway I put the car in test mode and one at a time swapped all the relays around( only the same type ones) with one that was working and all of them worked, unless the unit is tucked right up under the dash?
Cheers,
Dann
