I mounted mine on an angle (had to mod the brackets) and it fits much better.

I can take pics if you want

No need to mess around customising stuff....

There is a standard spacer kit which suits MY and L series. Available through many car stereo joints.

Edit - Just noticed you're in Perth... I got mine from Subarino - he can get them through his work.

Agree with the last comment, you can get fitting kits from most good car stereo shops and /or sound shops.

My kit came with fittings in one packet to fit all of the later subaru models, cost me $45.oo from Sound in Motion shop.

Made fitting my cd player in very easy .all of two minutes to fit the kit and it looks like it was part of the original dash.
The only problem i had was the mounting bolt at the back of my unit (Permantly mounted), so Idrilled a hole in the air tube for the heater demister system. Problem solved, also holds the cd unit rock steady.

I usually make a plate for these. mind you I'm going to a LOT of effort in my wagon. display is int he mirror and the radio is remote mounted elsewhere. stock AM radio is in teh dash.
if you want a kit to do it I can also get them.

I'm actually intending to make a recessinto the heater box so the head unit sits in "properly".
The front part of the heate box is ducted to the feet vents.

I think if you recess it into the heater box it will foul the screen vent shutter in the heater.

I've got a spare heater box I'm going to cut up to check first.
I think it'll be close.

Thanks Chris that would be great. I am still working out how exactly I am going to set it up yet and am open to all suggestions. I have a stereo and speakers from the wagon and its going into the brumby so may be a little different. I also have an ipod connection to set up as well.
