im pretty sure all of the automatic stuff is there on the ecu but is simply disabled (either be the lack of tcu or ground one of the wires). But somehow my computer does report its a manual to scanning software. But then i guess you could be right because i have had alot of problems with it (detonation, very inconsistent power, rod bearing failure) that could quite possibly all be related to a confused computer.

Mine is a factory manual though so i guess id be at least a bit upset if not suprised if subaru didnt bother to set it up right.
