sports dash installation

Post by Milla » Sun Sep 09, 2007 11:51 pm

i know of a l series sports dash for sale and really want it, it has built in tacho along with the door light and 4WD lighting, does anyone know if this would easliy fit into my standard L series dash/meter/speedo position- and if so would i need extra wiring...i expect i would for the tacho and oil pressure meters.
cheers in advance

If you have standard DL cluster - with no tacho - there is considerable re-wiring. Even the plugs are even different. It can be done (a mate of mine and I did it on mine). You need to run wires for the oil pressure gague (if it has one - not all tacho ones do), and tacho. Physically it will fit and screw in with no problems.

Also you need to fit an oil pressure gague sender into your oil pump for that gague to work. I got mine from the US.

so this considerable re-wiring would require the removal of the dash most likely, and for the extra wiring and sender what kind off dollars r u talkin?

If ya talking the one off ebay, it doesnt have oil pressure.

The only added bonus over your standard one is the tacho.

If you want, i can take photos of mine, i converted mine a few years back. I no longer need the wiring as my car is now fuel injected

Only need to remove the cluster do the wiring - most of the wires are there - they are just in totally different sequence and arrangement.

Sender is not cheap - Prolly looking at about $40-$50. Admittedly I didnt hunt very hard. A Vortex might have the sender on its oil pump.

Gannon is right - the one on ebay does not have the oil pressure and volts

After inspecting the remains of my wirining loom, its seen better days, i have cut bits off to use on the turbo conversion.

If you want, i will sort out the colours and tell you what to connect to where
