Outback Power Windows

I have had my MY07 outback for 10 days and the power windows are bugging me.

I want to be able to operate them without the ignition on.

Like if I leave my wife in the car and I have turned it off she can't open a window.

A wiring diagram would assist me greatly but its not on pdftown.com yet and Subaru wont sell the manual on disc or on paper.

Does anyone have any knowledge of where the wiring goes for the windows????

that's pretty common for power windows.

if you want to put them on constant power, i'd go looking in the back of the fusebox. the fuses will be grouped and connected to different buses, constant, acc, ignition on and ignition switched (goes off when cranking). find the fuse for the windows, and it will probably be on an ignition bus. disconnect it from that and connect it to the constant bus.

I have checked both fuse boxes and there are no fuses marked as for power windows. They must be tied in with something else.

I am downloading the Forrester 07 Service Manual and will look at it. Hopefully they are similar.

if they are full auto then they rout to the bcm first.

Body Control Module. it runs EVERYthing in the car including the windows.

Looking at the MY07 Forrester wiring diagrams the power seems to be derived from the Ignition Relay. However there is also a wire going back to MB11 SBF6. I think this is one of the fuses in the fuse box in the engine bay. No sign of the BCM.

Not sure that I want to start pulling trim off this car this early in my ownership.

i've got a bit of an opinion on the fact that with the power locks, when all you want to open is the drivers door,all doors unlock, bit of a security liability me thinks, so BCM is what i need to look at.............would prefer another switch to unlock all the doors,if thats what i want.

Why not leave the key in the ignition so your wife can open the windows if need be? Easy way out

Yes, but the ignition would have to be left on as its too difficult to reach around from the passenger seat especially for someone with a back injury. I feel this is too much battery drain.

you CAN hotwire your power windows so they are permanently powered.

problem is, if a switch or solenoid gets stuck you will flatten the battery.

you need to weight up flattening your battery vs being able to put the windows down without key

Yes, that is what I was hoping to do but to do it well and neatly I need to know where the wiring goes.

Have compared yours to the 2007 Forester manual I managed to download.

This section seems identical.

I still have to work out how to change it and whether I'm willing to start pulling my new car apart.

Go to scoobymods.com and do a serach there.
I posted up (with dodgy pics) where the fuses are in those (under the steering column) cars and the terminals you have to wire across.

I did it to my 02 Outback and the fiance's 06 Impreza, both cars had basically the same fuse setup, but just spun around different ways.

Never had a flat battery in either cars (mines got a decent size Odyssey in it thou), and has been more than helpful when you get out of the car and leave a window/s down.

No worries, Rob.

One thing I'd like to do is rig up a button that lowers or raises all four windows in the same way the drivers side window. I suspect that I would have to mount microswitches on the stops, though I don't remember any in the manual - perhaps the motor load is sensed and that's what is used as the up/down stop.
