I've seen hundreds of vehicles with roof mounted lights around the country and in Qld of late, to be specific.........

I cant imagine its illegal and they all get away with it.

I'm looking at the QLD modification handbook found at......

QLD Transport - All Vehicles Modifications

I think the main points to note are........

Specific (Driving lamps)
• Two additional pairs of driving lamps may be fitted to a motor
vehicle.
• The driving lamps must be mounted symmetrically on the vehicle.
• The light emitted must not cause the driver discomfort either
directly or indirectly through the rear view mirror and/or other
reflecting surfaces of the motor vehicle.
• Driving lamps must not be placed wider than the dipped beam
headlamps.
• The colour of light emitted from driving lamps must be white.
• Additional driving lamps must only operate in conjunction with the
high beam circuit and must be fitted with an independent on/off
switch.
• There is no individual height specification for the fitting of driving
lamps.

The only issue I have is..........

"..............may be fitted to the front of a motor vehicle......."

Clearly the roof is not the front of the vehicle.

Scorpion Low Range - SubaXtreme Front/Rear Bars - Spring/Strut/Body Lift
nuvi 760 - OziExplorer CE on iPaq212 - Dual Batts - icom ic-400 (comms)
ABS cut out switch - Fan cut out switch
BFG 215/75 ATs
An urge to fly...

yeah ive seen them al too but stil im 99 percent sure its illegal or the fact cops dont know its illegal

What i was thinking of doing was making a pnumatic or solenoid operated bar.
When the lights are off the bar points upwards, with the flick of a switch also to power the bar and set it to on position.
The lights are mounted on the roof but not in a forward position.

And it would be total wank factor =P
