Is your Liberty an RX?
If it is, it would be an light that comes on when you're turning...

Is that a connector on the end of it?

Looks like an ambient temp sensor to me.

That's what I was thinking, but it is a little different from what I've seen on a Gen II liberty. If you've got the external temp feature on the dash/climate controls somewhere you should be able to find the ambient temp sensor mounted to the support bar that the bonnet release catch is mounted to - you may have to remove the grill (I can't remember as I saw it on a mates car) to find it.

If you've got the feature in car, but there's no temp sensor there and this lead can reach that point I'd say that's what it is. And a simple test - hold it in your hands to warm it up, get someone to watch the guage in the car to see what it does ;)

Cheers

thanks for all the replies guys.
after seeing what you've all said im thinking it could be the temp sensor. it falls directly in the middle of the front, probably came off the support. doesnt reach the fog light.
will give that temperature gauge test tomorrow morning.

thanks again.

yeah was the ambient temp sensor, reattached it to the hood latch bit. and the check engine light has seemed to disappear too.

thanks for the help.
