Temp gauge hookup...

I'm having problems hooking up my temp gauge in my ej20t converted GL Coupe...
the "signal" terminal on the gauge gives me constant +9V voltage... is that normal? I've been trying to hook it up to the ECU "Coolant Temperture Signal" but that doesn't work and only messes up the ECU reading...
is there no other way but to install a new sensor specially for the gauge - will that work while there is constant voltage on the "signal" terminal?

(original sensor was lost after radiator swap)

The most common way to do it is to wire the EJ temp sender to the ECU, put an EA temp sender in place of the thermostatic switch for the fans in your radiator, the use the ECU to turn the fans on via a relay and connect the dash temp guage to the EA temp sender.

There should be a gauge output wire from the ECU. Use this rather than the temp sender wiring. A note though, your new max on the gauge is halfway and the running temp is about a quarter.

Tim is right... find the wire from the proper sender and adjust your self to the new "normal operating temp" on the guage.
ALso i have found this can be different on each car.... my old ej22 had obviously had the temp sender changed from another vehicle to help it match better... upon replacing the motor, which had a temp sender straight off a libirty.... I now find that my temp guage reads exactly as it should from factory... something to do with my car being an inport im guessing.

I put a separate switch to control the fans after I had some problems with letting the ECU run them...
I don't have any info on the temp gauge output on my wiring diagrams... any idea what pin it is on an ej20t out of jdm Liberty turbo?
