Small spotlight recommendations....

Post by SKT » Wed Nov 17, 2010 4:38 pm

I'm looking for a pair of decent small-ish spotlights for my Foz. Gotta dump the Narva 175s to let air in the grill and looking for something to replace em.
I dont need to cook the retinas of small animals 1000 meters away, I just need some dcent lights... low profile.... medium cost.... decent output.

Any recommendations?

What if you move your narvas somewhere else? Can you mount them on the roof?

I doubt you will be happy with the output of anything smaller than a 170mm spotty.

I am looking at a roof mount for sure. Prob go for a more rectangle low profile light that will sit nice and low.... I'm interested in anyone thats done roof mount lights posting up any wiring route details and pics of the install.

HID are illegal if they dont have washers, not sure why though

But if money is not a problem, then go the Lightforce

Do you have roof rails? If so they are a perfect spot for wiring. I have set of cheapo flood lights underneath by roof racks that I use on windy roads as my roolights are too bright and I get blinded by those damn yellow signs inthe corners... these floodlights are aimed out to the side so I can see around corners and the nature strip for wombats/roos.

Basically what I did was pull the ceiling hood lining out at the front, undo the front bolts of the roof rails and pull em up enough to get access to the holes. One of the holes in the roof will be oval to allow for easy fitting of the roof rails - into this extra space goes your wiring. Within the roof rail foot itself is usually hollow, so I drilled a hole the diameter of my two wires wide on the roof rail and threaded the wires through that and into the roof rack. The light is then mounted into the roof rack and the wiring is all tucked into that too so its nice and neat. Got it all done and now its started blowing a fuse repeatedly so I gotta look through all the bloody wiring again and see if its shorting somewhere... oh and I ran the wiring underneath the plastic facia on the A pilliar and then down the side near the pedals where I've put the relay.

Hope that make sense!

Cheers,
Owen.

a "lil" lightforce is 140mm. not worth changing from your 170 narvas for a 30mm difference.

value for money i reckon the 170 narvas + ebay HID upgrade are very hard to beat.

HIDs are way to go..
Ive had HIDs in my Liberty for over a year now, i've not had flashbacks and not even ever looking back!!

Ive seen HIDs in factory fitted cars, some has "washers" but most of them are fake... wtf...

I thought that roof lights were illegal and must have covers over them while driving an the road. Also much more obvious than hids

I have narva 155's with ebay 55w hid conversion and will never look back.

Even something like a narva ultra compact with a hid conversion will outshine most bigger lights with halogens and will only use 35w

the HIDs on my uncles turbo 06 foz (yes it is a family thing) has small lumps in the bumper, ive pulled them out by hand and see the unit but never seen them operate whatsoever
And im not sure about the roof mounted light thing.
I was under the impression if they faced forward they were illegal if above the centre line of the windscreen
