in car dual DVD player wiring

Quick question to you techies out there: Bought a dual screen in car dvd player for the kids yesterday and all is working well, except: there's cables going everywhere. 1 leading from the front cigarette lighter back to the main DVD screen, and then 2 cables (a DC out and AV out) leading from the main screen to the second screen. My question is this:
1. Is it possible to buy a longer DC in/DC out cable, and a longer AV cable? (if so, what are they called, I searched on Ebay but to no avail...
2. If an item is DC in, and just plugs into the cigarette lighter, is it possible to forget about the cigarette lighter, strip the wire and attach it somewhere else out of the way that gets ACC/ON power. Or is there something in the cigarette lighter that transforms the power to what it needs to be. i.e. is the wire just basically "plugging in" to the power using the cigarette lighter? If this is the case, i'll strip the wire and go under the seats so that that cable is also right out the way. Thanks in advance
