i have an 88 L series with a 94 rs turbo fitted, the tacho has never worked since i've owned it, the previous owner says that a few people have looked at it but can't get it to work, i've checked the rs's pin out and the wire into the tacho, all seems correct, how can i test either the output from the ecu or the tacho its self????? really want it going, cheers for any ideas

Is the RS pin out wire connected to the L's tacho gauge wire? If not there's your problem.

If it is the problem could be a burnt out tacho, maybe a blown fuse if there is one (can't remember), an incorrectly connected wire or the wire is connection is the wrong polarity.

Hope its an easy fix. If you have a spare instrument cluster it wouldn't be too hard to wire in the tacho on the front seat to see if the ECU's tacho wire is doing its job. If it works you'll just have to find the problem with your current instrument cluster - either a dodgy wire, no connection or a dud tacho gauge.

Cheers

yeah the correct wires are connected up, maybe i should find a cheap instrument cluster and wire it on the seat, thanks for the ideas:)
