Hey guys, I have a Round 7-pin trailer cable connected to my 2003 XS Forester (it's not the original subaru plug-in variety, it came with it when I got it)...any how, upon inspection I noticed the following:

Can anyone tell me what 1,6,8,10 are/wired to?

SECOND TO THIS:
The reason I ask, is, I'm installing an electric brake controller and was wondering if I could hook up to one of these pins for the electric brake [usually blue] instead of running a separate cable to the rear?..I just find it strange that there are so many other wires undisclosed; I imagine one is going to be constant 12v? Does anyone have any clues. Thanks in anticipation, Cheers Dyr.

No you need to run a new cable. Electric brakes can draw quite a bit of current and thus because of the distance from the front of the car where the controller is to the brakes on the trailer, 4mm2 cable is recomended to reduce voltage drop.

Both 7 and 8 are earths, the other spare wires may have uses in other countries where trailer wiring standards are different.

Cheers Gannon, I guessed as much. Would you be able to tell me if the 12v auxillary [which is the same gauge as all the other wires in the loom] would be alright for charging a 12v car battery on my trailer; i'm just worried that the thickness [as in thin], may not be adequate - but that would only be an issue if the battery was flat, right? Anyhow, here is a revised image -- i've searched the web high'n low and this is what I came up with ;)

I wouldnt. As you said its only small and if the battery was flat it would either melt the wire, or not charge as the wires resistance would cause a voltage drop and prevent charging.

Buy some 4mm2 twin sheathed and use one wire for the brakes, the other for charging, through a chagre/aux battery controller

Cheers for everything, mate -- got it sorted with your help :)
