Alternator 80amp for EA82 ??

Post by Kalbarri_baru » Fri Oct 25, 2013 10:10 pm

Heya all,
Was looking at upgrading my Alternator (93 L series EA82 Petrol Carby) from my standard 60amp to something far more substantial to power all my electrics, (Spotties, UHF, Phone, Radio, Tablet, Waeco).

I have looked on google and I know I can get a Hitachi 60amp from Welshpool, http://www.autoelectricsdirect.com.au/i ... &cat_id=33 but I have heard that there might be an 80amp Bosch and even a 120amp Bosch http://www.autoelectricsdirect.com.au/i ... uct_id=223 just wondering if anyone knows of the 80amp that will bolt straight in without mods or if the Bosch 120amp would bolt in without mods.

Cheers in advance.

Pwwahh! That 120amp unit looks pretty good - but the price!

The other thing to look into is the Maxima alternator mod.

There is some modification required but it seems to be pretty straight forward. I'm sure you could source the double pulley that they talk about.

At least you'll know there's lots of knowledge out there for this mod - just need to swim through the crap to get what you want though :(

Cheers mate!

Yeah Wayneo, the XT6 was a good replacement but you need to find a good on off Ebay. I saw this on USMB and would like to try this myself...

Yeah.. I couldn't see the pics either but the description was pretty self explanatory. I'll try and track one done and post up my own DIY thread.. maybe I can use Wayneo as a guinea pig?

Yeah why not, been a guinea pig before and the 90amp should be more than enough even if I do decide to go with a few 120w Led Light bars.

This one will be going in front of my Grille http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290961186938 ... 1423.l2649

and this one will be going on the top centre of my roo bar http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231064037527 ... 1423.l2649

At the moment I have 3 x http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/11-INCH-60W- ... 4d0be5eb2f I have one at my Grille one on top of my roobar (centre) and one spare (the spare was a result in a few ales whilst ebaying where I bought the same unit twice).

Give me a call if you try the Alternator idea or will discuss it next weekend.

Cheers WayneO

I've also been looking at using the Impreza alternator. As these have very similar bolting tabs. I think some more R&D might be on the cards.

Watch this space :)

Just remember to do your I=V/R to check the system can handle it ... ;)

As I found out in the Subaru Wagon, it didn't like an 80amp alternator I had in it for a while ( for the stereo of course ... ... ) - as it tended to fry things like wires & fuses ... :(

Had to put a 60amp back in - To get around that you might need a regulator / dual battery system & upgrade the wiring for it work correctly ... :p

Cheers, Bantum ...
