Hi guys
I've got a 1992 Liberty GX, AWD 5spd, 2.2 injected. It is my first Subaru after being a toyota enthusiast for years. Have to say I love Subarus. Everything is just 'accessible' in the engine bay (maybe except spark plugs). ha.
Anyway, unfortunately it is not holding charge, only producing 10V or so at idle, but if I rev it to 1500rpm and up, it hits a happy 13.5V no worries. This to me tells me it is a voltage regulator issue. I think this model is an internal voltage regulator so I may need to completely replace the alternator.
This is about $280 new so I don't want to spend my money if I don't have to.
Does my diagnosis sound correct? Can I just open the alternator up and replace the internal voltage regulator?
Most wreckers in Perth don't stock parts for 1992 libs anymore due to age, so I'm not sure what to do.
Cheers
Dan.
