Ea81 dizzy wiring- single wire

Post by Xp_weapon » Sat Apr 26, 2014 3:08 pm

Hi there I've got a problem with a off road buggy I'm fixing up
I've just swapped a ea81 engine into it
But I'm having trouble with dizzy an coil wiring

My dizzy has one single blue wire on it, all other threads I've red say there's susposed to be a yellow an a black an white

But I have a single blue wire running from bottom of dizzy to near the dizzy cap

Any idea if this is susposed to go to + or - on coil?

I'll try post a pic, will explain it better cheers guys

That's a points based dizzy so it won't have the yellow and black+white wire. With points based you need a points type coil with external ballast resistor. Only electronic ignition units have 2 wires going to the coil (electronic ignition coil, with no ballast resistor) That blue wire goes down to the condensor which should be attached somewhere at the bottom of the distributor. Where that blue wire ends up top there is another spade terminal which should be connected to the negative side of the primary terminal on the coil.

Hope this helps! :) Also post pics of the buggy ;)
Will it ever end!?

Thanks mate really appreciate it, now since I removed the dizzy how do I go about reinstalling it, in relation to timing?
Getting the rotor in correct spot to cylinder at tdc ect ?
Thanks again

first step is to get #1 on its TDC of compression stroke, then I shift to timing mark on flywheel, say 10 DBTDC.

Work out where the #1 lead goes to on the dizzy cap, and which way it goes on, point rotor in rough direction, drop it in, see if it lines up. Think the points should be open, rotor pointing close to its terminal inside cap. Might start !

Oh.. another thread.. well I replied in the other one.. sorry

I would also like to add the firing order is 1,3,2,4

I'd also say once you've cleaned up the flywheel timing marks, then just get a white paint marker and make a mark in 8 degrees before top dead centre.
