I want to swap the EJ20 Engine and 5speed Manual Gearbox in my Subaru Outback/Liberty Wagon 1999 model, it has selective AWD. I want to replace it with an EJ20 Engine from a Subaru RX Impreza Wagon 1998 model, 5 speed Gearbox with only 2WD. I have added some photos of both 'main engine wiring harnesses' which might help.. The 99' OUTBACK/LIBERTY main engine harness has "1x14 pin(brown) + 1x19pin(white)" plugs, while the 98' RX IMPREZA engine has "1x6pin(white) + 1x8pin(grey) + 1x16pin(grey) plugs. Im wanting to know if there is a 'conversion plug kit' available for this swap or do i need to get it re-wired? I cant swap engine harnesses because most of the plugs on the other end are different. I also noticed that the ECU plugs(located on passenger floor) are also different on these 2 models, any information/help with this conversion would be great. Also how do i confirm what size the engine is 2.0l-2.2l- 2.5l? They are both EJ20 engines and im pretty sure they are both Australian models (i bought them both in Australia)
Thanks in advance

I am putting a EJ20 engine and gearbox out of a "1998 SUBARU RX IMPREZA wagon" into a "1999 SUBARU OUTBACK/LIBERTY wagon"....
I have tried changing the Intake Manifolds with Engine Wiring still attached but the Intake Manifolds are different in size.

There is no adaptor kit available. You could try repinning the plugs you need for the swap.

Doing an engine downsize conversion is not something I'd recommend. You'll probably find you'll use more fuel and could have starting issues when cold.

To find out what's in the outback have a look between the alternator and PS pump. You should see a little casting that says either EJ22 or EJ25. Probably an EJ22 I reckon.

The only way to fit the factory manifold for the outback is to swap the factory heads onto the donor's engine. Plug and play that way ;)

Another option could be to get a second hand engine, replace bits on that then drop it in.

Cheers
