Fitted additional tail lights so lighting could still be considered OK with the spare wheel on the rear.
Cracked the left one ages ago and didnt worry about it till the stop lamp light came on the dash.
Good grief it stank and still does when I cracked it open.
Lucky I didnt burn something out.
No fuses blew either.

Left hand side melted after market additional tail light.

Holy crap! Never seen anything like this happen before.

What period of time did this occur over? And what was the issue that caused it?

I guess I bumped the light about a year or so ago which caused a crack in the top of the indicator lens section where water entered the sealed light.
As the light is sealed it has to be broken open to gain entry.
When I broke it open a heap of water came out and it stank of burnt components and I still cant get the smell off my hands.
I cut the light off and tossed it in the bin but did note there was a big burnt bubble of plastic on the rear of the light where things were going south in the back of the stop lamp part.

Still insane! I've got a set of cheapie LED auxiliary rear lights on the back of Ruby Scoo - only installed them last year and hard wired them in thinking if there's an issue the factory fuse will blow. Now I'm thinking otherwise.

I guess you'd need a rather small fuse with the LEDs to get it to pop when there's an issue...

Would be a good idea to protect them with a metal shroud like they do for trucks. stop 'em from getting smashed. Most modern circuity don't like water ... ��

Light replaced.
I fitted a 4 pin plug this time and will fit the same plug to the other side when able.
A guard is a good idea.
Looks like 100mm square is the norm for these lights so will have to look into this at some stage.
At least I can drive the car again now.
