I've always been disappointed in the results from contact cleaner, only seems to last a couple of months, I have more luck with Inox, leaves an oily residue which stops oxidisation which causes the corrosion.

CRC make a product just for this, called Battery Cleaner or something.
It sprays into a foam and neutralises the stuff, still have to scrape off the bigger stuff with a screw driver and wire brush it clean as possible, then hit it again a few times with the spray.

Then coat the terminals with grease or chain lube to protect it from happening again.
