Stuck on cold air to feet ? would prefer face and feet next button up on L series dash. Has anyone had this problem or any ideas how to fix. I can not get the dash facia off to get behind buttons so I can have a good look.

Check your vacuum connection from your motor to your vacuum canister. If there's a blockage here or the vac line has come off the dampers in the heater system won't be able to move.

Yep, four go into cannister and seem to be connected. Where do the hoses go through the firewall to get to the control panel?? there is a smaller device close to cannister and air cleaner where one is blocked off but I can not see where to connect it. This motor is a plumbers nightmare with hoses and vacuums. The whole problem occured when the mechanic fitted a second hand motor and lifted it 2 inches. there was an electrical earth lead off from under spare wheel to gearbox, it needed a 2" extension as well. If I can find where the hoses are, I mite be able to plumb up a new vacuum system off another set of pipes. seperate one just for aircond.

Look under the dash up near the steering colum, there should be a bunch of little black tubes there. Make sure they are all connected to something. I used to have the same problem.

could the lift have caused this or was the mechanic sloppy with plumbing the second engine ?? 35 degrees outside today I will have to check tomorrow morning. I do not have a shed or shade at the moment, coming in new year !!

I had the same problem with mine too. Turned out it was one of the many black tubes behind the facia panel that had come adrift.

Adsolute nihgtmare to get the facia off ,even more so to try and reconnect the tube to the correct pipe .The tube concerned was only about an inch long so how the hell the factory put it together in the first place has got me absolutely baffled. Sovled the problem by getting longer tubing so I had room for my fingers to fit behind the facia and connect everything back up. Good luck !!!!!!

The line that generally comes adrift is the one at the non return valve near the accelerator pedals kick panel

I found two vacuum lines leading from around windscreen wiper motor (I think) above brake booster (white can) but can not find where they go to air cleaner or surrounds. They appear to have been left off when new motor fitted. they were tucked up and curled in wiring. This could be problem as everything else works except air cond selection control unit. I have searched everywhere and there is no provision for them ?? Should I just get a small tree and plumb them into other vacuum lines ? One is approx 3mm the other is approx 5mm one small one larger.??

That white can is your vacuum cannister. One of the outlets (the one closest to the engine I think) should have a T on it - this goes to the damper control unit. The outlet closes to the firewall is for engine vacuum.

When I did the EJ conversion I simply found a suitable vac line, cut it and slipped a T piece in there, then hooked up the engine vacuum line.

Fixed Vacuum canister lines all is now working just needs a re-gas.

please let us know how you went with the regas when it happens .
I believe you need to upgrade the refrigerant to a later spec.

Does the system require additional parts or conversion to suit, or is the original system acceptable.?

TWC . I just took it in and they re-gassed it ?? I do not know about which gas they used but some guys up here still have some old gas so I did not ask.

The Air is working fine now and with the temp hitting 40 degrees celcius the other day I appreciated it all coming together at once.

I have dropped a blind (clear Plastic) behind the front seats to capture all the cold air in the front, it also works a treat. It was 35 today and I had to turn the air down to three instead of four, then turn up heatr as the afternoon cooled down.

I used to have a Kombi Van as a teenager and found the heating when I lived down south was not enough. Mum made a curtain for behing the front seats which caught all the heat in the front. 30 yrs later I am doing the same to keep cool. go figure, thats life!

Thanks for the reply and the blind idea. I use my car as a work truck most of the time with crap all over the back seat. so I will give the blind idea a go. I'll see how i go with the recon guys here and see if they got the older gas left.

TWC. For a trial blind I used a $1.50 clear plastic painter drop sheet from Bunnings. 1 x Elastic strap from side to side behind fron seats and made a channel for the ockey to thread through the sheet with some masking tape and folding over carefully.

Next I got some double sided tape tabs and stuck them around the pillars behind the drivers seat and folded the seat up to seal the bottom. Total cost about $4 plus ockey elastic strap. Now that it works I will try to fit some perspex like a cargo barrier more proffessionally. The trial blind has been up now for weeks, I just have to press against sticky tabs every now and again.
