digital multimeters - infinity ?? looks like what

infinity symbol looks like a figure 8 shifted 90 degrees like it is on its side right ?
one test for testing knock control sensor is to get a reading of zero or infinity.
can anyone explain what infinity will look like on a digital multimeter
is there something i can do to produce it on the screen?

Infinity what? Infinity ohms is a completly open circuit, 0 ohms is a dead short circuit. In practice, both are impossible.
If you get a reading above 1M (1 million ohms) that's close enough to infinity.

with my dads outback apprently u test fro continuity between the wire coming out of knock sensor and earth
it shuldnt exist which means the sensor is Ok
dunno if thats the same as ur knock sensor or if thats wt u even want to test but
my multimeter can be set to beep when it has continuity ive never bothered to look at wt it displays as the beeper is all i need LOL

in the case of my fluke 78 : OL (open load.)=> infinity.

Do you only use the Fluke on the Ferrari?
If you are looking for OC or 0 Ohm on test, then OC will just be a BIG number, 0 Ohm, then continuity test is a good-un, or less than 100K is close enough, although if it was at 100k, I'd be checking further... I'd expect a sensor that should read as continuous, would be less than 100ohm for sure unless stated otherwise.

OK thanks guys, understanding a bit more. I've never worked with anyone that really knows electronics and books i have bought / looked at go too deep. Google may be my friend here. I can measure voltage DC, polarity DC and buzzer for connection between two ponts and that's abou tit.

ok this one is fairly simple a one on the far left of the screen with no other digits is infinity wheras a "0" ohms is just a zero to test this theory you just put the meter to the ohms setting (looks like an upside down u) connect the cables that should read 0 disconnect them and you will have infinity, you should do this before using as it tests the leads. any more dramas walk into your electronics store and they'll help. And yeah I'm a huge fan of flukes.

sorry just read your last post and the ohms is refering to continuity but the buzzer may not give you a specific reading
