Are you guys and gals over in WA still legally able to use and buy radar detectors for use on public roads ? If so , X and K band only or laser radar also ?
And what of those number plate covers that confuse digital speed camera photography - still purchaseable over there ?

Radar detectors are advertised and sold from many legitimate shops here. Car audio shops have a good selection.
People say that it's illegal to actually use them, but some of my mates who have used them have never had a problem in that regard. Although I'd say if your acting like a hoon and get pulled over by a cop it would be in your best interest to quickly chuck the radar detector under your seat!
The number plate protectors are illegal and I beleive its a $100 fine if a cop sees you using one. A guy I used to know got a couple of these fines but still continued to use it as he was well infront with the savings he made on avoiding fines. Must have been alot of photos of his VL commodore at the fines department!
(naturally the best way to avoid fines is to stick to the speed limit)

nah, any numberplate protector which obsures the legibility of the actual plate is definitely illegal - of that I am 100% sure.
Heres some more info on radar detectors. WA is the only state they are legal in...

Ok... we sell radar detectors at work and i use one all the time i drive.
They are legal to sell and buy and use in WA... the government keeps trying to ban them but the sole supplier of Bell Radar detectors in WA fights them every time and wins. There excuse is that they are a trafic warning device since they also detect hwy work crews and stationary and moving emergancy vehicles.
X band is something they don't use in WA (I thought the whole of Aus). If you have X band turned on it picks up some security systems in homes and nothing more (atleast in WA).
K Band picks up traffic cops with the speed guns on the side of there cars but also picks up electronic doors on service stations. MAJOR difference in signal strength between the 2 though so it's easy to know if it's a cop or a faulse alarm.
KA ban is for multinovas... the amount of warning u get before u get to the radar depends on the location of the camera, eg: the angle and if there is anything for the signal to bounce off.
LASER is something mainly only the country cops still use but has saved me a few times... although all around Perth airpoirt you seam to get a lot of LASER false warnings.
All up it has payed for it's self atleast twice over... not counting the demerit points.
No idea about the number plate covers... sounds illegal though.

sounds good for starters, thanks. I was wondering if the state would be a good spot to find the laser radar detector that plugs in the rear of my Roadangel EVO , a 50 pound (currency) accessore seen on

The plate covers only distort photographs apparently through some optical "illusion'
