Actually if it's directly under the alternator and mounted into the timing cover it will be the crank angle sensor.

I should've remembered where the water temp sender was, made a note of its location when I changed turbo a while back.

Fury if you have any urgent Q's then just ring Sunspares and ask for me.
Single spade terminal connector under alternator is the oil pressure switch. Temp guage for dash needs to be the original L/Vortex unit plumbed into the top hose or it's side tank.
For the alternator you need to connect the sensing wire straight to the post(I think I already set that up for you) and for the light you need to connect the black/whote wore on the EJ20 plug(marked as Charge Light) to the charge light wire on the dash. It is NOT the black white wire in the Vortex loom. One wire in the vortex loom will be constant power, another will be ignition(the black/white) and the other is the dash light.

Tim81Coupe - EJ's up to 94 have 3/4 wire round plug alts(they are evil troublesome rubbish and should be avoided/replaced at your earliest convenience), 94-8 have 2 wire plug and are excellent and very reliable. 99 - * have 2/3wire oval plug and are also fine so far but obviously more expensive. They all bolt into the same brackets.

Excellent. I'm still amazed at how quickly you got this done.

Are you using the standard engine mounts?

Yes, I am using the WRX mounts, but I have put a couple of washers under them, as the flywheel cover was hitting the crossmember and deflecting it enough to just touch the flywheel and make a noise.

Clearance was raised by 2 - 3 mm and is fine now. This also seemed to let the engine sit in position better.

It keeps getting better. Ill give you a ring, or PM you later and set up a time.

I must say that I am pretty stuffed, doing this conversion during the day and then working from 3.30 pm till 11 pm with the film studio ( + extra organizing on the phone and meetings) . Takes a lot of effort. - but its gonna be worth it. 8)

Al, I hooked the temp guage from the EJ loom directly to the dash in my Vortex and never had any troubles with it. It worked perfectly.

Don't know about vortex but assume it would be the same as L series. The guage will work but reads low because the resistance range is wrong.

Didn't get much done today as my brother was taken by ambulance at midnight last night, to hospital with severe chest pain, so I spent the day updating people and helping family etc. He has a history of heart conditions ( inherated - not self inflicted) and may need surgery :(

On a brighter note, I have all the oils, filters , belts and radiator hoses ready to put on, in or finish, but will have to wait till tomorrow ( again) :?
Just a tidy and some interior work after that - all should be sweet. Then I'll do the rounds up here ( SE QLD) during next week.

Have you got every thing you need for the EJ18 paul? You know you can come and do it here and I will show you how.

I'd better stop reading these EJ conversions until after I've got my turbo EA81 straight gas idea up and running. Beginning to turn green !

She's a rippa... :D :D 8)

Evreything works, Guages, lights etc. I had a couple of small issues , like the brake boost hose was on backwards - which meant no brakes 8O ( 1 way valve) so turned that around and was fine and the bonnet clearance is a bit tight, but she runs so sweet....

A few rattels and bangs due to clearance issues, which I want to fix and should probablly get the tail shaft balanced, as I cut and shut that, rather than getting it done professionally. I installed a "T" joiner for the original sender, so I could get the oil pressure guage to work ( I hate things that dont work properly )

Drives smooth, great accelleration and sits on 3k in 5th at around 120kmph - not sure of the speedo difference due to the change in ratio from 3.7 to 4.11 and wheel size would be different to a WRX, but she does fairly get moving - and now has that very distingtive WRX sound.

When I rolled up to a friends place, and got to the front door he said he knew I had got it goin, as he could here me comming 3 blocks away

I still have to finalize putting dash trims on, The gear stick is not "exactly" in the same place as before, so no boot on the stick at the moment.

So, Just the little things to go - and still to chop out some excess wiring.

HAPPY HAPPY, HAPPY - and thanks to every one, for their help and input.

Brett,

Yeah I've got the engine, ecu, loom, fuel pump. I should be getting the 5spd L series gearbox shortly, and I've got the EJ-EA adaptor. I've got both the ea and ej radiators.

So I guess i just need extras like FI fuel hose and other random stuff like engine mounts etc.

I was gonna wait until I was closer to being ready and then shout out about coming over and doing it. I'll probably strip out the current engine, gearbox etc and respray the engine bay while it's empty first. obviously that means sticking it on a trailer if i do it away from home, but that's not a big deal.

I need to balance this tailshaft before I flog out the uni joints :?

Can anyone recommend a place either north Cold Coast or southside Brisbane... ASAP please

It looks like I have a 2 - 3 mm run out  , so may have to pay for it to be redone properly. Ah well, I never claimed to be a welder - but the right tools would have helped ( looking at the now bare piece of concrete , electrode stubs and grinder filings)

Still happy :D

Well..., done about 150 km so far, but can't accellerate hard, because of the vibration (but it wants to). - just normal driving is ok but with a constant slight vibration, but everything else is good. Talked with driveline today but they have a problem getting the small uni joints :? so they are making further enquiries.

I can't re modify mine, ( the heat would have stuffed 1 uni - at least long term and the tube is now not entirely straight at one end )

...but if anyone in SE QLD has a front shaft floating around at the right price, I might take it into them for THEM to modify  ( at least it will get done correctly)

I will pick it up asap, so let me know on here if you do have one, as I will have to make a decision by tomorrow lunch time.

I am pleased I did the conversion and the more I got into it and the more I have learnt , whatever was an issue or a concern, isn't any longer.

Still tidying up tho - and possibly will just be finding and doing small things for a while. ( like a new, more powerfull battery this morning :x )

Thanks again, I will take some pics soon
Chris
