Personally it's something I would do with every conversion for piece of mind - at the very least swap for a new cam belt...jayrod wrote:Engine has done low k's so not needed for a while a believe.
Maybe, but it could end up costing you a pot load more if it lets go. Just saying so you knowjayrod wrote:That and ive been spending money on the skyline!! lol so cant afford it

Maybe but I won't hold it against you
If you can take some pics of those plugs, and let us know where abouts they are, then maybe we can help you out?

Setback
To be expected, nothing goes smoothly lol!
I should of compression tested before the engine went in ...but hey...it happens.
So anyway i took it for a drive and it lacked on power, sounded ok, but lacked power.
Took each spark out 1 by one until the back right plug made barley any difference when i unplugged it, replaced spark plugs no go.
Went and got a compression tester, tested other plugs and got ~130, back right plug got.....50...., also not sure if related ( might be ) very loud tapping near the back right, ( stuck valve?)
I have got some spare heads, i just want another feedback on what you guys might think the problem is. I know the engines gota come out and most likely heads off, just if anyone else had this issue?

Most problems I see with the EJ20T engine is the timing belt is set wrong and/or valves have been knocked buy other valves and because they are very thin stems, they tend to bend very easily.
Has the timing belt been off?

I would leave the engine in place and just remove the timing covers first, then if the timing marks all line up correctly, then start thinking about pulling the heads off (engine out for this). Once the heads are off, you can do vacuum checks on the ports to see if you have any bent valves.

If you have coolant in the rad, then just remove the fans but it's not really too much hassle to put coolant back in and it is a lot easier without the rad in place.

Ok engine is out
Heads are off
The cylninder that was giving low compression looks all ok, piston looks ok, no scoring or anything.
What was wierd was there was a bit of water in the piston cyclinder, and the valve area looks "cleaner", with the valve themselves looking alot "older".
It looks like it could be a headgasket causing the issues, (hopefully)
I put some fuel in the exhaust and inlet on the head, and the exhaust side leaks slightly on the cylinder that had low compression
Next step take it to a shop and get them to see if the valves are all good, and fix it if they arnt
The problem im going to have is putting it all back together
I have taken all cams off and im hoping puting it back together is fairly simple ( timings, direction, orientation of cams )
