EJ22 conversion for L-series
Hi guys, i'm about to do an EJ22 conversion on my 1986 Leone wagon. I have been having issues with running the EA82 with 27inch tyres and i'm wondering if ill still have the same problem with the gear ratios once i put the more powerful engine in? If so, can anyone recommend a gearbox configuration to run along side the ej22?
Also i'm ripping out a carb engine and hoping to swap it with a fuel injection system. Does anyone have experience with this process? Is it more trouble than its worth?
Im guessing there is plenty of information on doing the conversion already posted. Could someone point me in the direction of a useful thread.

I am running EJ22 in a L series with 27" tyres.
I originally fitted the lower ratio gear set, was very responsive, but reved too hard on cruise.
Have now fitted the tall ratio gears, I prefer this. Less revs at cruise, bit less responsive, it was what I was after.
The EJ22 has so much more torque compared to the EA82.
I am running 4.11 diffs, if you run taller diffs (3.7/3.9), the lower ratio gears would probably suit better.

I'm running an EJ22 with the stock L series ratios, 3.7 diff ratio and 27 inch tyres. It's about 18% out with my last set of tyres. I drive with a GPS for my speedo.
I've not had a problem with drivability with this setup, even when fully loaded for some offroad touring. The L series should have come from the factory with the EJ22!
Do your research, shop around, get everything right then drop it in. You'll love it! The big trick is to see this conversion all the way through as many give up and sell on

Buy a set of those. They will save you from replacing engine mounts every couple of months..
