Yeah, I figured that would be the case. Still planning to get a forester later in the year though ;)

Having as much fun as possible in the L in the mean time.

I won't have the money for that sort'a mod any time soon (currently expecting a child, and I hear there are expensive :( )

Although I am thinking of keeping the L wagon as a weekend toy, so maybe some home work might be in order.

That's the one I have 2 of, still can't get them to work no matter what combination of wiring I've tried, I got the second one free because I sold them a sob story about the first not working but still no good,:D I'll be taking them to an auto sparky once I get back to see where the problem lies.

I just checked eBay and they are the people I bought mine from, they get around the 12 month warranty by giving free postage, you pay to send it back which is what happened to me but they relented and sent a complete unit free haha, actually quite a good company to deal with.

@mudking if your next project is the one i think it is go with a mid mount winch set up, half way in the wheel base.
this way you can go front, back, and up at an angle. Im not sure how theyre normally done, whether you have to re thread them though the eyelets each time you want to pull in a different direction but theyre a good idea

if your thinking the fiori then no im finding a way around it being off road only for now the plan is a cheap L 6" lift ( homemade ) guard cut 31,s a welded rear diff winch and keep it undefected for as long as possible the fiori tho if the L gets defected then ill have the perfect subalux doner haha either way ill go legit with it because it seems its going to drain alot of moneys

I hope the Fiori has more than 2cyls to turn the 31's or you'll be using the winch to help get up the drive lol.

I'll let you know about the winch/s when I get back, should be within 3 weeks.

If I get the winch going I'll only use it looped back to the car giving 8,000lb pulling power @ half the speed as I can't see it pulling a 3,000 lb car out of sand any other way, maybe even trebled. I'll probably fork out for the synthetic cable too as the drum will take more length that way. I've also cut up 4 bread crates as tracks giving each wheel about 1.5m of travel so even if the winch only pulls the car up onto them I should be pretty safe. I'm also going to try to get a table made up out of 8-10mm alloy checker plate that will have a pipe that sits in the tow bar hole and hooks onto the lip in the tail gate opening which if needed I can bury & use as a sand anchor.

Up here for thinking, down there for shagging.

its recomended you loop it back with any winch... its actually recomended to loop it as many times as possible (safer and easier for the winch) try a boat anchor (cheaper and works much the same way... how ever it could break so bring a spare hahaha

Yeah but I need a table too and the anchor could take 5-10m to bite, the winch has a really small drum so you want as little free cable used as possible.
