Gday Buddy, welcome to the site. There are threads titled "performance options for older subarus" listed in the forums, prolly your best bet at the moment. Don't forget to include some basic safety gear if you're going to run it into the ground.(steel can be beaten back into shape but humans can't)

Bring it up to south east Qld and sell it to us so we can do a resto and keep yet another nice old subaru alive ,instead of driving it into the ground,, and of course paint it blue. :)

I hate seeing good cars die a slow and painful death as well, But if you don't have to much work on (which I'd say you would) you can fiddle with my brumb if you like plus I have a wagon you can HAVE for the trouble if you want it!

I'd say best way to make it more fun in a paddock without really costing anything would be to open up the rear diff and weld it so it's locked.
That will help you do your drifties.
You could dismantle the front driveshafts to make it rear wheel drive but then you loose the main feature that sets it apart from any other paddock bashing car :)
