hey all, have some questions that id like some answers on.
as im about to put my new motor into my car, i was thinking what simple mods are there that i can do to the engine while its out to get just that little bit more out of her. things like porting the throttle body or modifying the intake system ect. just things that people have done to get more out of it.
also, what set up for the fuel system is best? were unsure how to attack this and all ideas and knowledge on the fuel system would be much appreciated.
thanks for reading and your helpful input

I think you'll find that you will have just done the biggest performance upgrade to the L series... I'd leave the motor alone and save the money for fuel to enjoy your new upgrade

I have done:
Complete rebuild
Deck heads & block to raise compression.
Port & polish head.
Performance stainless steel valves.
High rate valve springs.
Custom exhaust headers.
AFM / timing control (Custom built by me)
Adjustable FPR.
I am still yet to run this motor.....
But I am hoping for a reasonable power increase.

that sounds great, but i cant afford to put performance parts into it as im at uni...
maybe in near future she shall gain some of those mods...
have you looked into the throttle body setup?

With the throttle body there's not much you can do. Its the same size as the turbo (EJ20G/T)
The best thing you can do to the EJ22 is put a can of Subaru upper engine cleaner through it. And do regular oil changes. Just to keep the motor clean.

Can put a supercharger on....but I guess that's far from simple in the end, even though it is technically just a "bolt-on" mod. Check out Subarino's setup.

The best bit about this is that you can gather the bits here and there when you can afford them, then put it all in when you've got it all sorted...
I use this method all the time, its actually how I got my car on the road then the motor rebuilt (then ended up toasting that engine due to a dodgy radiator 9 months later) while I was at uni. My subi unfortunately got neglected last year, this year the tide is turning
While you're at uni you can stick with the EJ, without having an EJ in my L, I'd say this should keep you smiling at least while you're at uni, once you're out working fulltime, then start the performance mods if that's what you're after...

once im outta uni, all 4x4 parts are tax deductable

so a supercharger is perfect... mind you, if a commodore one bolts on i can get me one for next to nothing...

I think you'll find you will need a 'remote' supercharger - one that doesn't require fitting directly to the inlet manifold...
Wish all my 4x4 bits were tax deductable!

i gotta wait til i finish my degree b4 lift kits, lockers, winches etc are nice and claimable...
