The Vortex is getting a transplant.

I have in my posession a 95 WRX EJ20T with running gear.

The old gear is out, and starting modifications tomorrow, starting with hydrolic clutch pedal and radiator relocation mounts.

At the moment , I am thrilled :D :D , give me a couple of days and i'll just be frustrated !!

As people keep telling me, 1 step at a time.

YAY!!! :D :D :D :D

Got the new radiator mount in, strippped the engine bay and fitted the hydrolic clutch and new pedal - so not too bad an effort for 1 dat - for a beginner.

Ended up pulling the steering and guages out so I could get in to position the new pedal.

The project is on hold for a few days while I tie up some loose ends back in Newcastle. I fly back up to complete it next week. I still may be able to do some more in the morning before I go.

So far , so good :D

I have organised with the guy where the car is, for you to pickup stuff. I may also be able to bring that bonnet up in a few weeks.

I will send you the street number, but Its the same street that you came to the other day, which is a circuit . it is round the corner from where we were, and the Vortex is on stands in the driveway. The stuff is in the garage.

I thought it was today you were comming... obviously one of those days

Ill send a pm with that number,
Cheers
Chris

This is what PM's are for guys. :D

Fury, great to hear you're going down the turbo EJ path, even greater to hear you're getting heaps done on it early. By the sounds of it you'll have it knocked over very quickly.

Can't wait to see the end result - and remember if you hit a problem you'll find the answer here.

I'd like to know what you did with the hydrolic clutch!

You're cruisin'!

Me after I got th engine out I sat around drinking and looking at the bare engine bay for a few days . . . .

I'm not waiting that long...
I want it on the road

Today:
Engine and box is in :D :D
Gearbox mount is 1/2 WRX (back mount bolts straight up, with elongating the holes) WRX centre section , and modded original mount - (to the same specs as the WRX one)

Stripped some original loom from engine bay, and nearly had it STARTED and FIRED UP !

I'd like to know what you did with the hydrolic clutch!
Took out the clutch cable, Steering column and pedal box, positioned the pedal ( which worked out that I could actually use the hole from the clutch cable as the centre of the hydrolic unit) trimmed the excess from the clutch cylinder and pedal box and reinstalled the pedals and steering.

So far, not as bad as I thought it would be. :D

Now that the wiring has been stripped, should hook up reasonably easily.

Just the excess wiring harness stripping that has me a little concerned.

CANT WAIT - but Newcastle in the morning, back up here on Wednesday for more film work and to finish the car.

just completing wiring...

What is the sender directly under the alternator? water? where is the oil sender / switch?

tomorrow should be the big day... :D

should be water. oil is further down.

There is currently nothing wired to it , I assumed that the ecu would take oil and water readings...
If it is water, Is the sensor similar in resistance to the ea82, or should it be changed over?

I have also looked for an oil sensor or switch - (assuming it would be somewhere near the oil filter on the front of the engine).

I am assuming  a switch rather than a pressure unit. Can anyone confirm this please, as I will have to set up a light.

Also, the EA82 alternator has 3 wires in the original loom, a heavy black / white and the dash light from the plug , then the charge wire. The EJ20 alt has only 2 wires, the light and charge wire. Does the b/w wire get "charged" as well, as it seems to go to the fusable links - or is just disconnected. I believe there is no "exite circuit" on th EJ20 alternators.

Electrical in - so far so good, no smoke - ignition test in the morning :D :D

Just a few more wires to go, fan relays , air cond etc but looking good.

The Vortex has the wiper motor in the way of the TMIC :? so looking at a motor / wiper gearbox extention to move it out of the way. A front mount IC would be nice, but just dont have the $ to do it properly at the moment.

Nearly there :D :D :D :D :D :D

I dont wannna wreck it before I drive it...

That's weird you've only got two wires for your alternator. All the NA EJ alternators I've seen run 3 wires and all the turbo's 4. These definitely need an excitation circuit.

That sensor sounds like the water temp one for the ECU. The ECU actually outputs a signal for the temp gauge, screwing with the sensor is going to cause problems for the ECU. There should be a wire in your ECU pinouts for the temp gauge, my memory is telling me its a black / red wire but really I'm only good with numbers :P

Hope you don't have any hiccups along the way, been quite a speedy conversion so far, as I said before I can't wait to see the end result!

the water temp sensor is on the right-back-top side of the engine under the intake manifold... on the corner of the engine where the turbine is mounted...

sensor under alternator might be the crank-angle or oil... don't really remember though...

oil pressure sender - That's the one at the front, on top of the block in the middle. There are two water temp sensors on the water pipe that bolts on to the top of the block on the right hand side at the rear of the pipe - one for ECU, one for the temp gauge. I've pm'd you as well.

Cool, thanks guys .. on my way to finish the wiring and crank her up. :D :D
