The other week Mud Rat gave me a 32/36 weber. It sits pretty tall and im wondering if any bonet mods (cut out) are needed for an My or L series? Just gathering facts before the doings

Basically it comes down to what air filter you use.
I'm about to embark on this myself, but I've got a big round air filter which I think may not clear the bonnet, time will tell

when i put my twinnies on they came with these tall filters that wouldnt fit under the hood..... so just get some old sheet metal (i used part of our old garage door

) and make a top and bottom section to go around your old stock airfilter.. very high airflow

modifying the bottom of the stock air cleaner to suit is also fairly common.

The fitting of a lift kit solves this
Seriously, I don't think my bonnet would close if it weren't for the lift, and every Weber'd Subaru I've seen has had a lift kit too.

Actually, this post reminded me of something potentially dumb I was going to ask a while back.
Has anyone had a look at running the Ford air cleaner assemblies? IE off a Cortina or Falcon? I know they're a bit on the large size but perhaps one can fit?
Was thinking of it for myself along the lines of a snorkel setup but perhaps there's a model that sits down over the edges of the carb?

Yes I thought about doing this and I dont think its so dumb. The 2l Escort one would be a good call - they ran a 32/36 DGAV Weber. I used to throw these things out all the time when I had Escorts - and now I would not mind one to see how it would go

I do believe the carby that Fish_Stalker has is from an old Escort originally.

Nah it's just a cage with a wire clip. I think I got it from Vidler . . . but I'm not sure.

I got an airfilter with my escort weber I just put on the soob. It is the round blue one and does fit, this one was stuffed though. I bought a redline filter from cheaper auto, fits easily
