EA or EJ airbox in EJ20G RX Leone

What have you used with your EJ20T in your L series?
I have an EA82 MPFI airbox but unsure if the EJ AFM will bolt to it
If i get an EJ airbox, will it bolt to the fender in the RX.
I know EJ air filter elements are easy to come by (same air filter as Commodore) but what about EA air filter elements?
If you have pictures of you airbox i'd love to see them.
And NO a pod filter is not an option
Cheers guys

Ah found a picture in AndrewT's build thread.
This answers most of my questions
But does it bolt and line up ok?

So, come on - a link would help researchers

No, an EJ air box won't bolt into an L series. The shape of the bottom of the airbox doesn't match the L Series inner guard. In my car I used the bottom half of an MPFI L series airbox, and the top of an Impreza one. Some fiddling with the clips to join them may be required.
I also used an EJ air filter element (Ryco A360) because they're much cheaper and easier to come by than the L one (A345), with some high density foam stuck around the inside edge of the bottom of the air box to seal it (A360 is slightly smaller than A345).

So how did Andrew do it?
I suppose i could cut some of the plastic out of the bottom to get it to fit.
Is the EJ air flow meter 2.75"?

probably with a reciprocating saw
what about an impreza airbox that sits right near the throttle body ?

Probably a tight fit with the intercooler in the way

It'll bolt on.I think i had to make a hole a little larger. Also had to cut the L out of the intake hose. This was for a ej22 but the afm setup is similar re turbo.
I'll see if i can find it and take some pics.
EDIT:
Ok you need to drill 4 new holes and file a little of the afm for clearance and it all bolts together.Looks factory

So will the outlet of the airbox point straight at the turbo, or will i have to put a kink in it?

Do you know what car your airbox came out of? The one I looked at (Gen 2 EJ22?) was significantly different to the L .
My setup:

I welded the little brackets and bolts to the front of the L bottom half to clamp the Lib top on.
Pretty sure Andrew did something similar.

Maybe an EA airbox will still work.
It uses the same air filter as a whole heap of Nissan models from the 80s, so should be still easy to get.
I forgot that the EA airbox outlet is offset and apon inspection, it looks like it should be in line with were the EJ airbox with its rubber elbow would point.
So my plan is as follows....
EA airbox to EJ AFM (with redrilled holes) to a 2.75" - 2.5" silicone reducer to 2.5" piece of SS pipe with attachments for PCV, BOV and IAC to 2.5" - 2.25" silicone reducer 90deg elbow to the turbo inlet.

Sounds like WAY too much work to me!
I used 4 washers with a bit of it curled up to create a hook, 4 small bolts, another 4 washers (flat still) and 4 wing nuts.
Basically you curl (hammer) a side of 4 of the washers, these go on the bottom to hook the standard L series lower air box piece. I was thinking of welding these washers to the bolts, it would work a lot better and make for easier installation but was in a rush at the time. The 4 flat washers go on top to clamp the EJ air box top piece to the L series air box lower piece. You have to line up the EJ box on the L one to make it sit and seal properly.
I don't know if you can see what I'm talking about but here's my setup:
Looks stock, works well and cost about $4 in bolts, washers and wing nuts
Cheers

Not really
Only redrilling the holes to suit the EJ AFM will be different if i use the EA air box.
The rest is still needed as im replacing the hard plastic intake boots with silicone ones.
Kinda like the one i made for the EA82T of my last car.

im not a fan of pod filters but right here i think they have there place, and here is probably one of them. nock up a fiberglass or ali box if you want to keep the splash out but yeah

So how exactly does this work Gannon - the EJ afm is on a 90 angle different to the EA unit...
I just don't see your vision, unless you're using a later model EJ turbo that uses the AFM on a 45 degree angle to the EA's AFM.
Clear as mud?
