Hi Team,
So I know most of you are either from QLD or WA, but if there is anyone out there that has an MY converted with an EJ please let me know what engineer you went with.
I ma 2 hours south of Sydney, but would prefer an engineer in Sydney as the car is having it's wiring harness and exhaust done in western Sydney.
Obviously I want one that has previously engineered a MY to EJ so they know what they are looking at.
Cheers

I recall an engineer in the Gong who has engineered changes to Liberties of some sort, Col Pott(s) from memory. Find him and have a chat

yeah cool.
However, if R&C automotive didn't recognise him, I wonder how much he knows about Subarus? Ron and Chris have done everything Subaru for 30 years and know pretty much everything in the Gong.
Would be good to find someone who has used an engineer in Sydney.
Cheers

What
Don't tell me your this far into your conversion and you haven't lined up an engineer yet.
Oh dear, this could be messy
Not that your workmanship and approach hasn't been top-notch - just that I would have thought getting the engineering approval would have been one of the first considerations. Good luck - I'm just up the road a bit in Kiama so I'm keen to know how you get along just in case I have a Brumby cross WRX hybrid in my future

Thanx for the confidence booster Raptor!
No should be all good. There are plenty of people out there that have completed this conversion and passed it through an engineer.
Just want to find one in the know and at a good price.
Cheers

Heres a list of engineers recommended by Street Machine magazine.
http://www.carpoint.com.au/Tig/Minisite ... px?id=6659
Looks like you're spoilt for choice in NSW.
I had a good experience phoning people in Vic on this list. My personal experience was that people who were helpful on the phone tended to be more reasonable and easy going when it came to looking at the car. I had one dodgy bloke who isn't listed in SM picking things that were perfectly legal, he just didn't like the look of them. After that i went through the SM list and ended up pretty happy with the whole process.
Cheers,
Rhys

I'll try and make this post more constructive
From the
NSW RTA website re vehicle standards;
VSI 15 - Engineering signatories (March 2010)
VSI 02 - Restricted engineering signatories (March 2010)
Happy hunting, let us know how you go.
That first link has a Southern & Western NSW section commencing on page 9.
It includes the above mentioned Colin POTTS (C P Engineering & Equipment).

This is all copied from Streem Machine magazine:
ACCREDITED ENGINEERS
Before contemplating any modifications (or approaching an engineer), do some basic research about the legality of the modifications you're considering (eg: emissions, engine capacity, ground clearance, wheel sizes, driveline, brakes and suspension systems) beforehand. And be aware that not all certified engineers are willing to look at all types of modifications. Some just do box trailers, stretch limos or twin steer garbage trucks. To make things easy we've complied this list of appropriately qualified engineers and/or companies that have expressed interest in consulting on typical street machine projects.
Regardless of your research, find an engineer that agrees in principle with your planned modifications before proceeding. Not everyone's interpretation of the guidelines is the same. As such, some engineers are more comfortable and more experienced at certain types of modifications, thus making them more willing to provide certification. One of the biggest problems consulting engineers face is people presenting fully completed cars for certification that have no chance of registration. Radical, highly modified cars are not out of the question, they do, however, need to follow fairly strict guidelines.
Many commercially-available upgrade packages (e.g. some camshaft/exhaust kits, big brake upgrades and engine transplant kits) will be accepted by engineers as continuing to comply with the relevant ADRs without the need for additional testing. However, engineers will often request exhaust noise, emissions, handling and mechanical testing for certification. Obviously this type of testing will incur a higher consultation fee.
Always remember that engineers, like other qualified people who work on your car, expect payment for their time and experience. No engineer is willing to risk his livelihood just because you've spent thousands of dollars doing the wrong thing. Even though an engineer may assist you in gaining registration, it's your responsibility to ensure your car is safe and continues to meet the ADRs.
Although Street Machine has put its best effort into making this list as comprehensive as possible, it may not be conclusive. Other engineers may be consulted provided they are suitably experienced and qualified by the various state registration authorities. This list will become a permanent posting on our website (
http://www.streetmachine.com.au) and will be updated monthly. If you are a certified engineer and wish to be included, forward a short note along with your details to
[email protected] Happy spannering!
