turbo conversion into outback
hey guys just wondering if anyone knows if i buy a forester turbo or wrx turbo half cut will everything fit straight into my 2000 outback limited will the gearbox from the half cut fit straight in without cutting the floor will i need to change the rear diff, and last would it be worth the price for the power i will get as the outback is probably heaps heavier than the wrx.........cheers

straight answer - yes it'll go straight in, with mods of the wiring then off you go! No cutting required, engine mounts will go straight in. If your keeping the gearbox in and rear diff stays the same with the gearbox. if you decided to use different gearbox you'll need a rear diff to suit the gearbox.

It will depend on the diff and gearbox final ratio.
Early turbo's were 3.45:1 or 3.9:1, later turbo models were 4.111:1
Your Outback, assuming it is a manual should be a 3.9:1

You would have to take out dual range if your gonna use turbo box, if you want dual range keep the box.

You'll find all Subaru's from MY93 to MY07 are virtually identical underneath and in the engine bay as far as swapping parts over, the only difference between a Liberty/Outback and an Impreza/Forester is the tail shaft is 100mm longer, all mounting points are the same.

I would say that the engine crossmember would be slightly smaller in the impreza/foz - I've never looked just assumed that this is the way it goes...d_generate wrote:You'll find all Subaru's from MY93 to MY07 are virtually identical underneath and in the engine bay as far as swapping parts over, the only difference between a Liberty/Outback and an Impreza/Forester is the tail shaft is 100mm longer, all mounting points are the same.
If not the WRX crossmember would be the way to go as well - means you don't have to cut and weld the section for the turbo up pipe
