The only two things I could suggest to "change" with your build:

1) Go a touring wagon - I can see why you'd want to use this unit though.

2) Build the gearbox with a better ratio on the diff. Can be done, I've got a 4.11 ring and pinion shaft for a locking centre diff AWD L series gearbox. Cut and shut. From what I can gather you take two EJ pinion shafts, one being the 4.11 pinion gear, cut the 4.11 to add to the other shaft. Weld, strengthen, x-ray for cracks if you want, then build into the gearbox. Also look at the L series NA low range ;)

I wish I had some body building and spray painting skills/tools - I too have a little project that would move faster if I knew how to do these things myself...

All the best with it, I can't wait to see what you've got when its done - stoked that you've gone down the L series route

Cheers

Bennie
Ok Bennie.. I have taken your advise and sourced myself what I consider to be a good starting base to the RSR L Offroader.. not as rust free as the white one but this girl (The Beast - Thanks Renee) is an 89 model with the EFI EA82 and with the grey interior that I wanted :)

I have got her booked in to go over the pits tomoz and crossing fingers and toes, she goes over first time.. I'm pretty happy with her

Well today was the big day at the lic centre.. got the beast all tidy and clean and took her over at 8am this morning.. only thing the inspector said was go and lower the back end and it's all done.. so I asked him if I could quickly pop over to the workshop and take out the "Heavy Duty" rear springs (trying not to bring attention to the 3" rear strut tops :D and he agreed.. so long story short.. it's all passed and lic'd :mrgreen::mrgreen:

well done and I take it the 3 inch rear strut tops went back in once you got back to the workshop :)

so will this one get the 2 litre turbo or the 2.5 NA?

Looks great, almost as perty as the white one, not sure if they are hub caps or mags but they look quite nice, shame they weren't 15" X 6"

Great news, Did it have a full 3" or 2" kit with rear 3" rear strut tops?

When are you starting the engine etc conversion?
Whats the first step?

They are mags 14 x 6 and I was a bit worried they wouldn't pass the pits as they stick out ever so slightly.

It's a 2" kit all round except the front and rear struts which are 3"

Engine swap will be after the gearbox is built and not sure what you mean by the first step?

14 X 6 should take some pretty good tyres, kind of wish I'd gone 15 instead of 16 as there is a much better choice of tyres but I like the GT rims too much lol.

Wish I'd found a touring wagon THAT neat! Bonus that you got the lift with it too!

Looks like it'll be a great unit once you put it all together. Its killing me not being able to build up my project L - and that someone else is about to beat me to what I thought was going to be a pretty original setup! But don't let that hold you back ;)

How quickly will this build move along now?

Cheers
