If it helps, I know a fella that went EJ20G (turbo) and AWD RS lib manual box, spent a motza with front suspension and rear disc brakes and ended up pulling the turbo engine out and settled for plain jane EJ20. His realistic travel times really did not change due observing speed limits both engines, had fewer worries with his staff using it for work etc.
Bein in NSW it will be easier to convince authorities you have kept within the 15% increase in capacity for owner certified modifications. EJ22 falls outide that 15%

I've got the EJ22 in Ruby Scoo. I mainly went this way for two reasons: 1) it's a tried and tested combination in the L and 2) they were readily available in the yards when I started gathering parts. Now I'm seeing the odd EJ20 in the yard.

I'd have a guess that the wiring for both engines will basically be the same so there shouldn't be any extra difficulty in cutting the EJ20 loom down.

Also remember that the newer the engine and management system, the more complicated the cut down can become due to new sensors/ECU technology/immobilisers etc.

Cheers
