I've got a set of RX rear discs if someone is interested in buying them (PM me). I installed them on my car in about 2 hours including a full brake bleed, the hardest part is cracking the castellan nut and poping the hub bit off the driveshaft spline.

They definitely make a difference to braking, especially after the 3rd or 4th hard brake in a row because drums fade so much quicker than discs.

Defanately not buying a crossbred kit. In a disc brake set up you have discs, calipers, pads. Whats the main bit? I want to know if i can source new calipers and the main bit.
The rest i can get new.
Subaru would probs charge the earth.
Looks like im going to Subareck and see what they have. :)

You need the hubs - that is the rare part. I checked a few years ago and you can get them sent over from Japan via Subaru, but they cost thousands.

Cool, think i have a fare bit, or its corosion, or just looks crap, i would like them looking good.
On dads he has the gold rims, chrome/silver/metal disc, and a gold caliper looks good.
Probably wont go gold, anything but the tacky brown colour i have now!

Would suggest you cease bagging Paul's prices then!

You would be surprised who-knows-who in Adelaide...it is a small town after all.

As a guide, I sold my RX discs post crash for $400 about 3 years ago. Could have sold them 3 times over.

And personally, I reckon drums are on par with discs...in the rear anyways, and esp in a light ute.

Sorry, i apolagise. They are expensive but they are the only real subaru wreckers here. There is another small business, but they dont do what paul does.
Steve at Rising sun, havn't tried him, been next door at the exhaust place. Hes not a wrecker is he?

Sorry Cam

All cool little fonzies here.

Nothing jacks the price up than an annoyed recycler (aka wrecker)!

Steve is ALWAYS worth a call when looking for parts - most of my hens teeth parts over years have come from Steve, or his associates.

it isnt that hes overpriced its more he is the only subaru specializing wrecker in adelaide or australia even so he has no compitition meaning unlike small wreckers where they discount it greatly to compete... he knows you wont find the part so yea he isnt overpriced he just has no need to compete comparably he as evenly priced as a ford or holden specialising wrecker... unfortunately running a business that size means leaving room for stuff ups so generally speaking hes just like every other wrecker ( be nice or pay the price )... personally i think id make a great wrecker

I was tweaking mine up every 10,000km on the Brumby after fitting new shoes, wheel cylinders & machined drums etc - they'd feel better straight away but still no wear after 100,000km starts to say something not worky much hard. I prefer discs on the rear too

You'd be surprised at the difference in a ute as light as the Brumby, Steve. I found once I fitted the 5 speed I didn't have as much vacuum assist in 5th gear - the disc rear sorted that, and as for quick stops I think the rears take a bit of load of the fronts, giving them more stopping power.
