stuff you buy for your subes trix n stuff

Post by steptoe » Sun Sep 28, 2014 8:01 am

Thought it an idea to have a thread - that needs a few contributions from some of the cruisers as well as the regulars hint hint - of stuff you migh buy to add into your cars and what for .... forget stereos and other entertainment things - more gadgets with a purpose.

So, in case ebay links die or age off, add a description of what it is and search words used to guide someone into the place to buy please

Here is one item off ebay, see how long link lives ..

is a $ electronic module to extend time of of things. You might want to add this and a dash mount switch to give interior light a fixed time before auto off, or add to stereo for keyless use with an off time. Or add into a tricky circuit for anti theft device

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/0-999sec-DC1 ... 473wt_1368

Then there is simple headlight reminders about
no link, just get a two wire buzzer and a coupla diodes for good measure. One wire on IGN pos+ other wire gets pos+ power too when park or headlights are on. Somehow little buzzer buzzes if you switch IGN off with lights still on. No more flat batteries.

Then there is tambox's suggestion of an aussie made interior light on extender - search ebay dome light extender

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DOME-INTERIO ... 0956606783

Then there, here, is degenerates suggestion of a cig lighter plug in voltage checker again from ebay

One for $17.99 (last one ! HURRY ! :p ) and free postage or two the same for $5.39

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2X-12V-24V-L ... 258015dacc

Of these above, found must be my old ute, sometimes a start it shows odd singl digits, just needs an unplug and back to check how your battery Volts looks. Purists will say you need a separate power source to get correct readings for som reason, may tell lies if need super accurate ??

Been running one of these alertegps G220 speedo device that comes with a neat magnet to apply to dash top, also comes as a programmable alerte system for speed cameras, red light cameras, black spots, can al;so set up personal flag alerts if you have an insistant wombat in the area that tries to commit hurry curry in front of you each morning or night. The G200 is cheaper, smaller and has time function on it seems to work better around school zones than the G220, just not have such a good display screen. Is user contributing too, so if a new zone pops up, save location with a button press and upload it to their site, a week later it is downloadabl to every user free :) No subscriptions :)

Other stuff with no links

Jaycar at least do Bosch style relays in 15 and 30 ? A that have a fuse receptacle at the front of them for Sube sized blade fuses - saves adding a fuse inline somewhere you can't recall where ...

On the fuse dept, some company sell Sube sized std blade fuses 50c ? each, or get the ones twice a s much that have an LED that supposedly lights up if fuse blows. Great tip coming from a fella who has a small bucket of std fuses saved over time

Four wheel drive, camping and auto parts places (but probably never a tyre place) sell a groovy little puncture repair kit of a needle rasp, sticky strands, basic rubber glue and needle insert tool for repairing holes in tubeless tyre tread areas. For less than cost of puncture repair you can buy a kit to save you half a dozen repairs from simple nail and screw punctures.

How can I forget this stuff, Sealwel - yeah, two L's in total. Vortex75 is probably being checked at work for presence of drugs to explain his smile every coupla weeks. Excellent for water in oil temporary repairs 60,000km ago in my case and was steam blowing not water in oil - suspect turbo :) . If you talk to the Australian importer of the US made stuff - it is a standard service item to shove in any coolant to clean and seal up any little leaks. Might be wider used in bigger machinery

There are many options for this sort of stuff, starting with lighting;
HID lights.
LED light bars
A million options of Cree lights
Under door lights
Under body lights
LED tube lights
Reversing light globes with inbuilt beeper
Auto headlight controllers
General light controllers...........

This list could go on for a long time.

All personal preferance, more gadgets = more problems??
L serious, still.

OK, maybe I should edit and ask any contributors to be specific, with links to exactly same thing rather than generic words as ideas. Degenerate was good enough to provide a link at first, and comment that the voltage readers were cheap and worked for him.

Can't find a link at moment, but for the high content of something red of my Brumby that wants to keep fading, oxidising going to crap quickly - Eagle 1 wax by Ashland (Valvoline) is more of a miracle worker than the once a year car polish in the orange bottle. SCA had a clearance sale of the Eagle wax with application and polish cloths @ $5 a kit. Snapped them up about 3 years ago.

OK, mine is non spray Nanowax technology, so must be old gen stuff, found a youtube of the spray on Nanowax - note how shiny the car is to begin with though.Mine is crap, dull and blech to begin with

Pointless link???
http://www.uspmotorsports.com/RFB-Autom ... -AHL1.html

Jaycar kit is cheaper
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5524

So what you really want is "value for money gadgets that work well"
With the millions of Chinese gadgets online, it would be nice to know which ones are worth buying VS bin it after up to 6 months.

P.s. if anyone can list a simple ( not 2 or 3 stages) polish that last 12 months on an older car that is driven daily (in the city acid rain) in all weather conitions, please list it.
L serious, still.
