Two Speedometers...

gday.

um, yeah just speculating whether or not it COULD BE possible to have two speedometers:

one for normal tyres;
one for bigger tyres.

It'd be safer if i wanted to change from bigger tyres to normal tyres, ya know?

if not, who re-calibrates speedometers? how is it done? (not that I plan on doing it myself. Probably end up reading out 30km/h doin 80. thatd go down well)

If you were going to that much effort I think I'd get a speedo thats fed from an electronic pulse, attach a hall effect sensor to the end of your existing speedo cable and have 2 switchable configurations, not sure exactly how feasibale that is, i kinda just pulled it out of my...err..head ;)

There is (was?) a mob in Perth somehwere that made small gearboxes to adjust a speedo - they sat in line between the gearbox and the speedo head.

Bit too much hard work for me though - i just knock 10% off the speed im doing and that works for me.

wait... if your speedo says 110km/h... if you knocked off ten percent itd be 99km/h. you do more with larger tyres. do you mean you add ten percent, and thats what you're doing? so 100km/h is 110km/h?

Depends how you look at it.. but yeah...

ie

Actual 100kph = Speedo 90kph
Actual 80kph = Speedo 72kph

Just get a gps and put new marks over the old ones with a red texta or something, so when you are using big tires follow the red marks.

Roadangel EVO

Never heard of them before, but look like a really cool idea. I'd probably buy one if they could be connected to a PDA with gps navigation software loaded in.

Marks 4WD have speedo adjustment devices. To suit mechanical and electronic units. I have the electric one on a Landcruiser and it works great. It has a switch on it so you can run two different size tyres and both are adjustable. I have mine set up to suit 33" and 37" tyres.
