Increasing power in EJ22

Hi all
Have recently acquired a 95 gen2 Lib wagon. While i would love to put in a turbo motor it not really an option right now, so was wondering if there are some mods i can make to the existing EJ22.
The motor is in great condition but feels restricted so could probably do with a new exhaust,pod filter etc. how restrictive are the catalytic converters in this model?
Any other ideas on mods for increased power would be much appreciated...

Unless the cat is stuffed it shouldn't be all that restrictive, the most restrictive thing in the stock system is the rear muffler, other than that it is pretty well designed.

Try replacing it with a sports or cannon style muffler, would give you a whole lot more power but it should be more responsive and maybe give you a bit more bottom end.

I'd also go for something like a K&N replacement panel filter rather than some cheap bodgy pod, yes a pod will flow better but thats because it doesn't stop anything getting through it, although all in all it's not going to make a heap of difference, again it'll be a bit more responsive maybe add a bit of bottom end, maybe rev out a bit more.

The only other option is having your ecu chipped or reprogrammed.

Really by the time you've done all that you may have squeezed 10-15 more horses out if you're lucky but nothing is really going to compare to forced induction, a supercharger setup like Brumberty has one the Wonder Brumby set up for maybe 4-6psi will probably give you the sort of increase you looking for but it is by no means a small job or something for the faint at heart, you really do need to know what you're doing, even then you may have issues with the engine leaning out because the stock ecu doesn't know how to deal with a boosted engine.

In which case the next step is a turbo conversion, for this hunt down a front cut, it's really the only way to do it.

Thanks for your thoughts mate. I have been down the turbo road before puting an EJ20T into my brumby thanks to BYB-01. While it was a great car i learned that these operations arent cheap and always seem to run into the red.
Anyway for now will try a few of your suggestions and concentrate on getting the car lifted so i can head over to Moreton Island in the near future

Putting a turbo into a Lib is a piece of cake compared to a brumby. Almost a bolt in replacement.

10-11 I heard.

When mine is in a running car it runs 10ish on low boost and 18-19 on high. Wouldn't recommend above about 15 on standard injectors.
