Spare Wheel Holder - L Series Wagon

Hi All,
When I stick an EJ20 in my L Series, the spare wheel will be evicted. I'd rather hang it out the back than take up space inside the car. So I guess I'm looking at a rack of some description...Can anyone give me either detailed instructions or photos of one????? Are they a pain in the asre to live with? Anyone got any good suggestions or solutions?
Thanks for the input...

Unlike Hatchy though, you'd have a fair bit of trouble opening the rear tailgate on an L series with that design. I prefer the swing-out design like on your old wagon Jay

yeah i think if i had to hinge my one down everytime i had to get into the boot i may have gone with a different design... in saying that though... i have never been keen on any of the designs that i can't get quick access to the boot with.

One that I've never seen done but I thought might be good.....Mount the spare wheel on the actual rear tailgate. Aquire some REALLY strong gas struts to replace the standard ones so the door still opens easily enough and stays up. I know you can get the standard struts regassed so they are really powerful, but this would probably need beefier than standard struts.
Not sure if it's really practical but I might give it a shot one day.

the only problem with that Andrew is if the hinges and the latch will hold under the extra weight.

I have seen more than 3 spare wheel carriers to suit various Subarus pop up on ebay within the past month... keep an eye in there.

Land Rover style on the bonnet perhaps, given the limited times a subie bonnet needs to be opened !
