As said above, contact Gareth at crossbred performance. He is a great bloke, more than willing to help fellow subaru owners. I have one of his kits and it is one of the best mods you could possibly do to your subaru!

They kinda costly for what you get tho, i guess not a huge market.

Can the rear drums off an early impreza be put on some how?

You think?

Try getting brand new brake upgrades of this calibre for other models, I think you'll soon change your mind...

As for the second question, this could be achieved using the Crossbred kit, which discs are a far better option.

Or you could go this way, cheaper but illegal.
These are 15/6 rs turbo wheels with 205/60 tyres

what's wrong with re-machining the hubs for the 5 stud subaru pattern? Is this also illegal?

And those RS rims look sweet on the L ;)

Cheers

Re rilling hubs to 5 stud is a problem because of the ribs on the hubs and drums(i think)
Now with 70's series tyres

its a lot of fiddling to do. I have done it and I'm still mixing and matching things.

brats kit is the easy way of doing it. I spent $2k on the rear of mine alone doing it. reworking the impreza stuff and new lines etc was the worst part of it. I have XT6 hubs on mine that I imported from the USA ($550) for a bolt on swap. brats hubs are a DIRECT copy of them that he designed and engineered himself. (we compared them when I was in MLB last year.)

the impreza idea isn't legal as it machines the hub down and weakens it.

to do what you want you need:
front:
steering knuckle swapped
lower ball joint needs swapping and the lower control arm modded to take it
mix N match of axles.
legacy struts

rear: impreza brake assy complete. handbrake cables, 5 stud hubs, impreza handbrake or similar (looked at a diahatsu charade one looks like it would bolt in.) and a lot of fiddling/time ;)

No 90brumby
I got these made a while back in Perth.
I have 1 spare as a tempate.
From memory they cost me $100 ea not including studs
Then you have to machine the hubs/drums flat to suit.
Also got a locating lip cut in them, safer.
Remember, they are illegal, use at your own peril.
(tested them out in Lancelin dunes a while back)

If you use a 4-stud to 5-stud adapter you can bolt on some 5-stud rims.

With the Crossbred kit you also get to use the bigger brakes from Libertys & WRXs.

Something to think about if you want to run bigger tyres or have more horsepower.

Yes correct.
I have used std rear drums and rear discs with my adaptors,to me it was the easiest way to fit 5 stud wheels.
The cars had stock power so no issues with bigger brakes for me.

I also have one of the kits, - which by the way is the best and easiest legal way to go.

I also looked at redrilling the "L" series hub, and purchased a pair of 4x 114.3 hubs, only to be told by an engineer that unless it conformed to either an Australian standard, or modded by a licenced engineer shop ( or someone who has qualifications on paper) can supply a metalergy certificate and documented welding certificate, that it will not conform. Any stud hole that is left unwelded, within 22 mm of the new stud must be welded with apppropriate material ( 40 41 alloy I believe) heated, welded, heated again and slow cooled so the surrounding material is not compramised.

just the metalergy conformation cert was going to be $250 ! quote on welding 4 hubs, machining and redrilling the hubs and new studs was approx $120 each

... and you are still left with small brakes and an engineers certificate to organise.

Gareth's kit is a fair price for the work that has gone into it, will help as much as he can and has no faults that I can find. Mine has been of for about 10 months - a few weeks before the 06 BBQ -

If you are doing the 5 stud thing, this really is the way to go - even though it "seems" a bit more costly than we would have liked, as I too was financially strapped at the time.

At least consider it. By the way, the engineer that I went to had a look at the kit, said it looked like OEM stuff and if involved in a colission, requiring a tear down, that it probabaly wouldn't even be noticed. - as opposed to spacers, redrilling that would.
