Engine Questions

Post by KERAZY » Thu Aug 23, 2007 3:17 am

Gday all.

I'm after some information on the EJ engines:

What are the similarities between an EJ22 and an EJ20?

Could an EJ20G block be fitted with EJ22 heads successfully?

That is all, thanks :)

The blocks are very similar but the EJ22 one isn't closed deck. The heads are very different.
You could fit EJ22 heads onto an EJ20G block but it would not be easy (trying to modify an EJ22 head to suit a turbo.....) and would result in a downgraded engine.

It this gonna be another thread debating wether you should just be a man and modify the chassis rails or not?

Andrew, if it ends up being that, I'm not taking responsibility for it.

The reason I'm asking is, I would rather fit an ej22 first with turbo gearbox and diff, and then later try and turbo the EJ22 somehow. If not, EJ20G.

I know people running boost on EJ22's with no troubles. I've heard they are good for around 200-220hp.. I was going to turbo mine, but I changed my mind as when she's running good I feel she has more then enough power to kill me with my stupid childish driving. But you never know, I might get a death wish after I finish my project buggy....

I'd through in a EJ22 and turbo it later if you want.

Its easier to throw in a turbo motor later when you want turbo than mess around trying to build a custom engine!

But anyways, yes its possible just depends how much time / money you want to throw at it.
