Superchargers??? What do you know??
As some of you know i was the lucky buyer of Brumberty's old Super charger (sc-14) that will be mounted to my EJ22 in the hatch.
Just wanted to see what some people know about super chargers.... i have read a lot lately but not found a lot specifically for this engine.
Main debates seam to be with things like weather an Intercooler is worth while... and if yes then what type. Also should a run a BOV... some say yes... some say no.
Other things regard it is will it run with the factory ECU... will i need to upgrade injectors etc etc... i think everyone gets the general stuff im talking about.
Is there any other problems i should expect... any info is welcome.

I was in the same frame of mind about the BOV, but after thinking about it, if you back off the throttle at say 3000rpm, the supercharger will still be boosting on the down revs as it follows the engine speed. Probabily not a high necessity, but good to have anyway.

My Mums factory supercharged REX (Fiori) runs a BOV it is a plum back style. It does have a top mount IC fitted but it is part of the intake rail/plenum chamber...

Capa used to make a kit using a eaton m62 and a custom intake manifold where the blower was mounted between the manifold and motor, running @ 6psi it was enough to make the old rs turbo pretty much be shamed by the ej22. The kits cost like 4.5k and prob weren't worth it but from an article i read on it my understanding is that they were using the factory computer injectors etc as the rising rate regulator stopped it leaning out. Also used some kind of wastegate or bov not too sure, I'll try find the article, was in an old hot4's... reckoned it made the motor feel like a 4ltr.

The injectors have heaps of cc's left too, 6 psi is not out of the realm for the standard gear.
Reddevil on the NASOIC boards put 12psi through a plain jane 22 for 8 months, being nasty to it as well.
Intercool it, run a bypass system which is actuated by the tps.
I would put a blow off set high in there too for safety's sake.
The clutch can be set to disengage with a pressure spike (closed throttle body or backfire) a hobbes switch and relay will do the job.

Ok i have done some more research so here is a brain buster for you guys... \

Most impostantly is the fuel pressure regulator... this is also done off the manifold vacume right? Will this need to be also re-routed before the super charger... and if so will this efffect the way the fuel pressure regulator operates?
How does the fuel pressure regulator work on an EJ20T? does it work the same as an ej22 one and infact still work when under boost?
Any help or rational, on topic, comments would be great.

nope. will work just fine...like a turbo motor. Every time you back off the throttle there's vacuum in the manifold.
the fpr uses manifold pressure (vacuum/boost) as a reference so it can maintain a constant fuel pressure above manifold pressure. ie you will have (for example) 35psi across the injector at all times, whether there is vacuum or boost pressure in the manifold
i'm unsure if the std ej22 fpr would be designed to work with positive manifold pressure, but you could compare it to an ej20t one or just swap it for one.

That is the case with a Turbo motor... but with a Supercharger the motor is always on boost isn't it... maintaining boost pressure even at idle... which would make the manifold never at vacume.... even a one way valve shouldn't help since at some point there has to be vacume.Point wrote:nope. will work just fine...like a turbo motor. Only place there is vacume is before the Supercharger.

toyota supercharger yes? If so it has a clutch like an aircon compressor on the front. Switch it off throttle position so when you need boost you've got it, but when you don't need it, it's off. Would get much better economy. I can't imagine there'd be any boost at idle anyway. How did Brumberty have all of this set up before?
there is vacume in the manifold after the butterfly..on turbo cars and supercharged cars.butterfly closes causes vacume in the manifold ie: when at idle.
