I shoulda tried a tacho on my old engine - it'd rev it tits off - like 20 k more in each gear than the present standard motor in it now which still pulls well with 410,000 km on its donors clock !!

was there a link to this manifold on ebay, i didn't look

8500 rpm? I'd be over the moon if I can pull 6500.
Reading my workshop manual, the EA71 pushrods are near 12mm shorter than EA81.
Can I assume the engine from each head gasket surface is 24mm narrower, making the EA71 manifold 24mm narrower than an EA81.
Which then makes the manifold 396, 501, 448, the above dimensions minus 24mm.
Can anybody verify this?
Regards

Gary ;)

although photos can make things look a little deceptive ("TV adds 10 pounds" - makes J. Rowe look healthy instead of skinny as !!)

I found this stuff on ebay without anyone linking it for better advice. It looks a bit short in the manifold - may need a stretch to fit EA81.

It does NOT look like my set of twin hitachis that DOES fit ea81, including the thermostat location . It is cheap though, be fun if you found EA71 motored MY. Might put in a sniper bid meself
