Hi all , can anyone tell me if its possible to find Vortex XT6 rear discs in Australia and if so will they fit up to the Crossbred rear hub and work with the std L (RX) caliper ?
Cheers and thanks , Adrian .

XT6 rear hubs are a direct replacement for l series rear brakes so i doubt they will fit a crossbred hub. You wont need the crossbred kit if you have XT6 parts.
I dont know if they will work with the RX caliper.
Just remember that the XT6 had the handbrake on the front wheels, so if you use XT6 rear brakes, you cant use liberty parts on the front

I just wanted to know if XT6 rear discs were available and would go together on an L RX with its std calipers . With Gee's hubs that is . The intention was to temporarily fit the 5 stud hubs and wheels without buggerising around with park brakes yet .
I did a quick search of DBA and they don't mention Vortex or L Series rear disks at all . Lucky I have spares ...

wouldn't it be easier to fit the whole liberty/crossbred setup and not put the cables on?

Good luck finding XT6 parts in Australia, and i believe they are pretty rare in NZ too.
The XT6 rear hubs are a direct replacement for the RX leone rear disks, Gee's kit wont work. If you wanna use Gee's kit, get liberty/impreza rears.
As for the front, there is little difference between liberty and XT6 fronts (except the XT6 fronts have a handbrake)

actually it will. IF he uses the hubs ONLY and the impreza brake hardware it will work.
his hubs are an EXACT copy of the XT6 ones - we proved this on a cold june day in melb back in '06.

Yes thats what I reckon , from what I've seen the offset is different on the XT6 hub because the disc's hat section is on the outside and its thickness was taken into account .

If you want to run 5 stud but still have the handbrake at the front the L series brake calipers mount on RS Turbo Twin Spot brackets and work with the RS disc. I had this setup temporarily when I had XT6 rears hubs and brakes. The XT6 rear calipers are the same as RXTurbo ones.

It would be much easier to just fit the liberty brakes which the crossbred kit is designed for. Only need to source one set of brakes (which will be better anyway). The handbrake conversion is not difficult if you have the crossbred kit, it comes with everything you need to make it an easy job.

Hi all , as I just said to Chris I wanted to have a play with my MY 00 wheels without mucking around with cables/hydraulics or affecting the std brake bias . Really its just those discs preventing me changing the std RX hub/disc over with the CrossBred hub/XT6 disc and bolting the std caliper back on .
If anyone has any usable XT6 rear discs for sale or loan please let me know . Also if anyone knows of any disc similar enough that it could be machined to std XT6 dimensions that would be good too . I'm going to ask about in the US about the dimensions of this XT6 disc so I know whats required .
I suspect that all these discs are is something similar to a first gen Liberty only solid 10mm thick and a smaller diameter hat section because it didn't have a park brake drum inside it .
LOL I don't know weather to curse Subaru over interchangeability though availability is the problem in this case . So much of the XT6 is transitional between L Series and early Liberty , just a pity they didn't get the Liberty rear brakes .
Cheers A .

Since the XT6 never was sold here then they will be pretty hard to find. I've heard of people importing the rear brakes from the US but that is not cheap.

if you get the whole lot sent over - yes it adds up. weight kills it.

hangon a minute.......(think im the thread-hijacker of the moment,sorry?)
legacytt -post#8 is telling me i can use front liberty discs with my l series caliper and front-hand brake-hub?(make sense?)whoa.
well......i have front arms, hubs, struts, discs,cv shfts, leftover from my 2gengxliberty after its legacytt conversion(another mouthful).
ie--sounds like i could use-----modified-ball-joint front arms ,
----------------------------with liberty disc and hub(stub) and cv shaft
--------------------------using with Lseries caliper?(whynot the liberty 2spot?)
---------------------------??and Lseries front handbrake hub??
---------------------------then iwould get crossbred rear wheel hubs,
---------------------------get some liberty rear discs and backplates
---------------------------hook them up with no rear hand brake?
can you please clarify this use of RS(liberty?) brakes and front handbrake parts together?me no comprehende
(ok im trying to cut costs by just purchasing the crossbred rear hubs and building the rest myself)(also facing engineering requirements ----so would these brakes be suffishint?)

Yes, you need the mounting brackets from Gen 1 RS twin spots to mount the L series handbrake calipers to Lib hubs. Works fine but long term a rear handbrake setup is better and not hard/expensive to setup if you have the crossbred kit allready

LegacyTT when you say brackets do you mean some kind of adapter that bolts to the 1st gen upright or is the upright itself different . By upright I mean the bit that bolts to the strut and houses the front wheel bearings .

The Brackets are the mounts for the caliper itself which bolts to the standard Liberty upright. The brackets stay in place when you do a pad change and pivot the caliper out of the way. The distance between the pivot and the mounting bolt is the same between Gen1 twin spots and L series calipers so you can swap calipers. Hope that makes sense

Yes I understand exactly what you mean - basically a sliding caliper is made up of the base or mounting bracket with the slide pins bolted to it . The bridge or floating section is that which houses the piston/s and is carried by the slide pins .
So you are saying that dimensionally the L's handbrake cable equipt floating section fits over the early RS slide pins and works with one or the others native pads ?
I imagine that also means using the early RS discs and that their thickness is no problem ?
Has very interesting possibilities for an L Series .

Yes to all of the above. I did this to the L sedan that Fatz now has before I had the handbrake setup organised for the back. Worked well.
