fitted these today came up great, they are factory legacy, but all the bracket are there in the aussie car to bolt to and alot stronger than rola style racks.

they suit the cars to well, make it look like a different car!!

Why not ? Are the roofs not allowed to take 40kg ?

they are the strongest option you have for roof racks on a gen1. they bolt straight into the pillars of the car at 3 seperate points. bloody good setup

Yeah I think every gen 1 jap import car I have seen has had them fitted, may have been a standard fixture in Japan or something.

So the bolt goes only though some ply and one of the wheel stud holes ? I'd be doing something else if so. The ply may fall to pieces on the corrogations. Maybe some padding on those cross rails you bolted on and just go with some tie down straps onto your subaru rails. Hope you have spring washers on those bolts/and or nyloc nuts.
Otherwise it looks like it will work.

I was gunna suggest the tie down strap from the point of making the wheel much easier to get down when you need it. eg not needing to climb up the reach in to undo the nut.

Any tyre/wheel larger than stock standard will not fit in the spare tyre well. (edit: I meant for current shape outbacks...sorry for not being clear) I have to keep my spare tyre on the roof as well inside a roof basket. (doesn't leave much room for anything else unfortunately.......
