Exhaust for me lib

Post by Shark » Tue Oct 14, 2008 3:19 am

Hey all, after having a listen to alex and matt's l's i have decided i wanna hear a big more than engine noise when im giving it a bit..

Currently ( Correct me if im wrong dave ) i have what seems to be a 2 and a half inch, possibly three but i dont think so s/s exhaust system with a std sti muffler at the rear and its hell quiet... I love that boxer note like all of us but i have heard a few where they sound awful.. I like that nice deep note...

What would i need to do to get the sounds happening...

Marc

Oh and im trying to do things as cheap as possible:D

You need to replace the rear muffler with a cheap Canon type one from Repco or similar. I think they cost about $100 to $150 ish. Probably cost you about 50 bucks to get an exhaust shop to bung it in.

90% of how your car sounds is down to what rear muffler you run.

Well now im confused!!... LOL

So andy i dont need a " Muffler " really at all... I can get away with just a cannon style at the rear... Does it matter what brand or do they all sound the same.. I thought most of those cannons had really crap 6" tips...

Yeah, a cannon is muffler, its a "cannon style" muffler. If it wasn't a muffler it wouldn't exist, it'd just be a piece of pipe.
Naturally for a nicer sound u need to get a decent traditional style "straight thru" muffler which is like a normal stock one but with far less restriction and consequently louder.

But as requested, to get a loud boxer rumble sound "as cheap as possible", you need a Canon.

Going through youtube i found a video with a sube running an x force cannon which sounded sweet. And the other day at my brothers workshop they had a lancer with an xforce and it was a nice deep sound..

If that will do the job for me i will wait and save for it.. I just dont like the six inch tip.. There was an x force cannon for sale on ebay with some sort of flapper valve on it which enabled you to " quieten " it when around the police and so forth.. It was sweet but over my price range at this stage...

I will wait and spend the money on a decent cannon i think... just hope its not too loud:)

Thanks guys

Upon some research i found out that that cannon i was talking about is called a varex by xforce and its a remote controlled muffler so u can quiet it down around cops and perhaps your street where you live.. Pretty expensive at around 350 for a single tip but i think it might be worth saving for.. I just dont wanna go through heaps of mufflers trying to find the one i like thats not too loud but loud enough.....

More to think about

not as sssssiiikkkk as the person recording the video! hahahha

yeah cannon ftw. when i put the cannon on the wagon when i use to have ej22 i couldnt believe the note it produced. Best sounding ej22 ive ever heard :P

with the 20g now tho, its quiter, but it barks, rather than spitting as it was with the ej22.

Shark, when do you think you'll have enough for one? I would be interested in hearing a sound file of it before and after.
