headers for l series ea82

Post by jayrad » Mon Jul 25, 2011 4:50 pm

hello people have bought myself an 91 l series, cheap of a mate. i have spent a bit of time and $$ on her now and would like to know if aftermarket headers are avalable? its already got 2 in with hot dog in pretty good nick but the headers? down pipes? manifold thing-o are a little worse for wear flattened and a rusted cat also.
Would running it without a cat converter damage engine or driveability (thought only injected cars had cats?)

please help me my car sounds like a lawn mower!

Best and cheapest option is to find a replacement factory item in good condition and drop that in. Make sure the exhaust studs are solid as these tend to move and pull out resulting in the chaff cutter exhaust sound...

Not in SA - On top of Oz pretty much!

I'd keep the cat as not having it could result in a large fine for not having the appropriate emissions on your vehicle.

Any car the burns fuel has a cat, not just EFI units. EFI are seen as the only cars that have a cat as legislation about cat converters came in a few years before EFI hit the mainstream car market. EFI also help with emissions as the computer can closely monitor fuel/air ratios as well as exhaust gas emissions (to a degree) much better than the mechanical metering of a carbie...

Cheers
