exhaust advice..

Post by woody.t » Fri Dec 30, 2011 10:08 pm

hey guys,
bought a 3" cat back and am planning to purchase a 3" dump pipe as soon as i find one for right price/what im after, just looking for on weather to get a cat in the dump, i know legally you need one but does not have it warrant the risk.. and how does not having one affect noise which brings me to my next question, it came with a big nemesis cannon, and im not a fan at all of the big cannons and i want it to be relatively quiet so what would people recommend to keep the noise level down and what have you used and did you like it..

cheers,

The only problem with not having a cat in the exhaust system is if you have to do an emissions test to get the car over the pits, otherwise nobody will know.

As for the final exhaust... how loud do you want it to be or not be?

A normal hotdog with a 2 inch tip will give you a rumble, or a standard turbo muffler designed to make a system quiet, will work and still give you good exhaust flow.

it was built by cypher for a wrx but modded to fit a liberty wagon it has 2 hotdogs in it already if that has some relevance aswell i know little about exhausts.. and to be honest as quiet as possible is cool with me with a bit of rumble when it gets some stick.. and it's an ej20g into a liberty wagon

Best to just fit it and try Tyrone. You can later change the muffler if it's too loud.

resonators or hotdogs? they are different the resonator is full of baffles to silence the noise and the hotdog changes the sound to make it sound "sexier?"

when I get a chance I will make a video of the difference of exhausts on my brumby.

:)

One point I will make,Australia wide if you remove a Cat that was original supply from the manufacturer the Fine is some $10,000 your call.
If you get pinged you know what to expect,as for so called high performance "Metal Cats" basically rubbish 100 cell cats are illegal as well,if you want performance then you will then soon work out why manufacturers use either bigger high volume cats or add more cats for more flow potential.
