You will not need to go bigger if you have a N/A motor. As for the price... you can get cheeper however under $300 is still good

There is no point in going to big as you will not get the proformance benifits that a turbo motor will get (and without going into massive detail you can go too big as well thus becoming inefficent).

2-2 1/4 will give you that sweet boxer bark (although some of this depend on the muffler as well)... if you are lucky some places will alow you to test the note before welding it on (well at least the bloke did for mine years ago - and Suabrino's recently).

Oh and make sure that they mount it nice and close to the body if you are 4WD or you might just distroy your new system (like i have  lol... 12mths old, relitively cheep at $200ish, and needs replacing).

Just as an indicator, I got mine done for $220 in Melbourne. That was for 2" back from the Y-pipe, 1 hot dog and a straight through turbo muffler for a deeper sound.

also remember

if you intend of getting a lift kit, do the exhaust AFTER the lift is installed!!
As the installation of the lift does alter exhaust angles...

8O

Ummm, how badly does it affect everything?

If I install the kit, will I be able to drive it still or will the exhaust have to come off? Sounds stupid, but I don't exactly understand.

Is it just becuase the hangers on the body are trying to pull the exhaust up, but the engine is staying the same height? :?

wait till the lift kit is on, unless you like throwing wads of cash around to the money hungry.

3" tip = r i c e.

That said, my coupe has a 3" tip. But it has a 3" system fitted.

With an NA motor backpressure is essential, it increases the scavenging effect between cylinders and it prevents the exhaust valves from over heating. Now if I've read this correctly you are going from a 2" middle pipe to a 2 14" tailpipe? This is quite silly. If anything you can afford to lose diameter the further back in the system you go, as the exhaust gasses have cooled.

Did you ever stick a card in the spokes on your BMX? I bet you went faster. Same thing applies here.

If you want a beefier engine note and increased performance, just fit a 2" system the whole way back and use a 2" Lukey. Don't forget that in an NA car you have to maintain backpressure, as opposed to a turbo where flow is the priority.

On my EA81 I went std y pipe (less than 2 inch) to keep the interference factor then two inch to a sports muff and skipped the hotdog, now wear earplugs on the long highway runs. Considering the hotdog now.

I have reduced the interference on another car (more y pipe volume in suby case, less bends and dual 2 inch pipes) and lost low end and mid revs torque. Went back to increase interference, bends and slimmed back to a 2 inch pipe for performance gains.

I reckon do what you want, I'd keep std y pipe diameter and go 2.25 through doggy to the straight thru.

But it is a big poofy tip for a pissy exhaust.

Give me the pissy tip any day. Big tips = fake advertising = no better than any Civic owner = rice.

Want a 3" tip?

Buy a wrx.

Nothing wrong with chrome tips. Adds a touch of class and sophistication, two things the L series lack.

As long as they're not 3"

Woah guys cool down!

If he wants a 3" tip, that's his decision. It may not be the best decision in your mind, or even mine. But as long as he enjoys it, that's all that matters!

This thread has been good, don't make it a flame war!

Just on the note of exhaust and lifting, my exhaust is fine after I lifted it 2" today. Could do with a tuck just to add a little extra clearance, but it still sits fine!
