WRX header>>EA82T?

Post by SmashedGlass » Thu Apr 26, 2007 9:32 am

Quick hypothetical question: could an up pipe (header) made for the WRX 2.0 be made to work on the EA82T? I already realize the EJ has an exhaust port per cylinder whereas the EA only has one outlet for for both exhaust ports per side. But if the points where the manifold MOUNTS are in the same position...........heehee, break out the torch boys...

idea behind hairbrained scheme is simple: there are plenty of cheapo ones available on eGay, and it may be simpler and cheaper in the long run (for me) to simply modify the EJ piping for the EA than to have another custom one made (@ average $$ of over US$500!?! thats the price TWE quoted me for their last remaining up pipe).

Dont forget that the EA engine pipes are handling the exhaust throughput from two cylinders where the EJ pipes are only looking after one . I believe an advantage that some EJ up pipes have is the adapter flange before the turbo , doing it this way means the adapter can be removed and another fabricated if you wish to change to a non native turbo family/flange .

If I get this far with the EA82T I'd have twin up pipes because it gives you the option to run twin scroll IHI turbos ie VF36/VF38 like some EJ20's do .

Cheers A .
